Miss Buffalo was brought here from Wheatley, Ontario as Miss Muskoka in 1971. Miss Buffalo II in 1981 and later Niagara Clipper served Buffalo as the first Dinner Boat. On a southwest wind, cooler air flowing off Lake Erie stabilizes the lower atmosphere, creating what’s known as a lake shadow. This cooler, denser marine air spreads inland and undercuts the warmer air over land, reducing low-level instability and making it more difficult for air parcels to rise. As a result, updrafts weaken, causing thunderstorms to weaken, split apart, or fail to develop as they move into Buffalo’s northeastern suburbs and adjacent areas.
The stable marine layer also suppresses the growth of cumulus clouds. Instead of rapidly building into towering cumulus and thunderstorms, clouds often appear flatter, smaller, or dissipate altogether as they move over the lake-influenced air.
This is most common during the spring and summer months when Lake Eries water temperature is cooler than the air temperature.
This does a complete 180 in Fall and Winter when we get cooler air moving over the warmer lake Erie waters bringing us Lake Effect rain and snow.

I've been seeing a TON of questions about Lake Eries lake shadow in preventing thunderstorm development so I'll briefly talk about it here.
