This evening, some of our advisors had the opportunity to meet with the people behind some of Africa’s most remarkable safari lodges and camps at the Exeter Safari Roadshow in Charlotte. We talked destinations, lodge styles, wildlife, guiding, conservation, and the small details that can make one property a far better fit than another for a particular traveler. It’s important to know the difference between regions, seasons, camps, experiences and styles of travel, and more importantly having trusted people on the ground who know them firsthand. Thank you to all the representatives from each of these magnificent properties for taking the time to meet with us. This was a very good evening of learning, making connections and adding a few more places to the Africa wish list. And for the clients who have been saying, “One day, we’re going to Africa…” We may have some ideas.

Designed by Travel Advisor Adrienne Jacobsen, this summer journey through Portugal was created for an active couple looking to experience a new country through a balance of thoughtfully planned experiences, outdoor adventure, and time to simply explore on their own.

With just 3–4 months to plan nearly two weeks in Portugal, Adrienne partnered with local experts at TempoVIP Luxury DMC to create an itinerary that covered the country’s highlights while still leaving room for the unexpected moments that make a trip feel personal.

Their journey began in Lisbon, where private airport transfers and a private tuk tuk tour offered an easy introduction to the city, followed by an evening of Portuguese culture with a traditional Fado dinner show.

From Lisbon, they traveled south toward the Algarve with a private transfer, including a memorable stop for lunch at a local vineyard along the way. In the Algarve, a small-group boat excursion to the Benagil Caves brought them out onto the water and into one of the region’s most iconic landscapes.

The journey then continued to Madeira, where the itinerary leaned into their love of the outdoors. A private half-day Jeep tour offered a chance to explore beyond the main tourist routes, while a small-group sailing experience brought a completely different perspective of the island from the water.

Traveling during local holidays added another layer to the experience, giving them the opportunity to see Portugal come alive through local celebrations and traditions along the way.

Throughout the trip, private airport transfers, private touring, and carefully selected small-group experiences provided structure and ease, while intentional free time allowed them to slow down, wander, discover each destination independently, and enjoy time together.

It was an active, thoughtfully paced introduction to a new country, designed around their interests and without trying to fill every moment of the itinerary.

Designed by Travel Advisor Monica Dickerson | Luxury Travel Advisor, this extraordinary journey through Kenya was created for a couple looking to experience safari in a way that felt both deeply immersive and beautifully considered.

Their 10-night adventure with Micato Safaris begins in Nairobi at Hemingways Nairobi before continuing into some of Kenya’s most remarkable landscapes and wildlife conservancies.

From there, three nights at Finch Hattons Luxury Safari Camp in Tsavo offer an intimate introduction to the Kenyan wilderness, with a tented suite overlooking the treetops and tranquil hippo pools, framed by views toward Mount Kilimanjaro.

The journey then continues to Loisaba Conservancy and Loisaba Tented Camp, perched above the dramatic Laikipia landscape. Here, the experience extends well beyond traditional game drives, with opportunities for bush walks, horseback riding, a Samburu village visit, and a night game drive—each offering a different perspective on the surrounding wilderness.

Throughout the itinerary, private safari vehicles, expert Safari Directors and Driver Guides, seamless bush flights, beautifully appointed tented accommodations, and thoughtfully chosen experiences allow the journey to unfold effortlessly.

Many of us spend our daily lives trying to eliminate uncertainty. We rely on schedules, directions, reminders, and routines.

Travel introduces something different. Even with the best plans, there are moments when we don’t know exactly where we are going or what is in store. A wrong turn, unfamiliar transit system, or a neighborhood we hadn’t intended to explore may seem inconvenient in the moment, but these experiences often become some of the most memorable parts of a trip. They remind us that not every worthwhile experience comes from certainty.

Sometimes discovery requires a little discomfort and a willingness to wander and trust that not every path needs to be mapped in advance. Travel can teach us that being temporarily lost is not the same as being without direction. Occasionally the wrong turn becomes the right memory.
