The story of Wauhatchie
In 2010, we married and merged into one large and beautiful family with three additions! Our eight in-home kids are Elise, Thomas, Ani, Sophie, Kai, Eden, River, and Bryce - each of which have a cabin named after them, as well as Ryon, at 22. We began renovating a large old house on the adjacent property while the family called it home. At the time, the blue house was a run down 100 year old home, and the cabin park was a very old and decaying mobile home park. In 2014, we saw potential for this incredibly unique spot and purchased the little house next door from Nicole’s dad, Doug Trammell. We renovated the property and tossed it on Airbnb and got a taste for hosting!
In 2016, we began laying plans to convert the mobile home park into a well maintained, rustic vacation rental setting, producing architectural plans and business concepts. In 2018, we purchased the 14 acre park and seven acres across highway 41 from Doug who spent two years cleaning up the park and helping renters relocate. By 2018, we had put down payments on the first cabins and finally took delivery of our fist six cabins February and March of 2019.
What’s incredible about this spot is the setting, the proximity to attractions and the city, and the natural rustic feel. It’s utterly natural yet practically urban! Surrounded on four sides by National Park owned forest, and nested into a dense, old forest, the cabins are canopied by tall, old, deciduous trees. We are at the foot of Lookout Mountain, nested in the intersection of Lookout Creek and the Tennessee River though intersected by rail lines and I-24. Just one mile from Ruby Falls, and one mile to South Broad in Chattanooga, you are within 5 miles of every major tourist attraction in Chattanooga - Rock City, Ruby Falls, Incline Railway, Point Park, The Tennessee Aquarium, The Discovery Museum, Downtown, The Arts District, the eclectic Northshore with its wonderful city parks, and the hip Southside around Chattanooga Choo-Choo. Yet, we are half a mile from the Skyuka Trailhead, which accesses the entire Federal Lookout Mountain trail network to the Chattanooga Nature Center and Reflection Riding, Sunset Rock, Covenant College, the Cravens House, and Point Park. We believe that no other location merges the natural beauty of the area with such proximity to all the best Chattanooga and Lookout have to offer.
Our family shares a drive with our Skyuka Chalet and the Wauhatchie Blue House, custom built vacation rentals. The Blue House is a 1,700 square foot house originally built in 1919 but updated with truly rustic charm. The Chalet is a stunning looker situated over the large pool and firepit environment overlooking the TN River with a great winter view. You may see one of the kids checking on your hot tub, blowing the decks, or running around like rabbits, but you will certainly find that we respond quickly and take very seriously your needs and comfort. We not only try to offer a unique vacation experience, but exceptional hosting.
