👻 SUMMER BEGINS THIS WEEKEND IN CHICKAMAUGA 👻🇺🇸

Join Southern Shadows for the official kickoff to Memorial Day Weekend and the start of summer in the haunted heart of North Georgia.

This is your LAST WEEK to experience our evening tours at 7 PM before summer hours begin. Starting May 26, tours move to 8 PM for the season.

As Memorial Day approaches, we also remember that many of the traditions Americans know today began here in the South after the Civil War. Across Georgia and the former Confederacy, countless women were left to recover the dead after unimaginable devastation. They organized the burial of fallen soldiers, helped establish and maintain cemeteries for the Confederate dead, and gathered each spring for what became known as “Decoration Days” — honoring graves with flowers, prayers, and remembrance. Over time, these acts of mourning and memorialization helped inspire the Memorial Day traditions recognized across the United States today.

In Chickamauga, where the scars of war still linger across the landscape, those memories feel especially close.

History should never be gatekept. At Southern Shadows, our mission has always been to honor the dead and ensure they are never forgotten—empowering us to carry history forward with respect. We are proud to have been embraced in Chickamauga to carry out this mission. Just as Sharpsburg and Gettysburg highlight their heritage, Chickamauga deserves this moment. That’s why we’ve partnered with Boos, Brews, & BBQ (featuring Barry of Shinedown) to create a festival celebrating our haunted history, community, and culture.

While a vocal few have tried to shut us down, we remember Thomas Jefferson’s belief in freedom of expression—and we believe all voices should be heard with love. This festival will bring opportunity to local businesses, honor our past, and put Chickamauga on the map.
