I'd like to share an experience that captures why Disney is truly the best option for many neurodivergent travelers. It all started with onion rings:

On the first night of their Disney Cruise, my guests arrived at the dining room and met the waiter who'd been assigned to them for the duration of the sailing. One of the guests, an adult on the autism spectrum, jokingly asked why there weren’t any onion rings on the menu. The waiter was surprised, but the family explained that onion rings were a comfort food for him, though they knew it wasn’t a typical appetizer in such a setting. They ordered their meals and moved on, not expecting anything further.

But just a few minutes later, the server returned—carrying a basket of hot, freshly made onion rings. He had gone out of his way to have them specially prepared in another kitchen elsewhere on the ship.

But that wasn’t the end of his thoughtfulness. In fact, it was just the beginning.

At every dinner for the rest of the cruise, the family arrived to find a fresh basket of hot onion rings waiting at their table.

That kind of proactive care — meeting needs without hesitation — is what truly sets Disney apart for families like theirs, and like mine.

(No, these aren't onion rings. They're churros. But, thanks for reading this far!)
