Before the rides and the fried favorites, there were the barns. 🐄

Behind every midway light, thrilling ride and fair tradition are the people who make it all happen. Our Midway Mavericks series spotlights the bold personalities and behind-the-scenes stars of the State Fair of Texas, and few keep its roots growing stronger than Daryl Real.

Daryl attended his first fair at just 2 months old. Today, as Senior Vice President of Agriculture and Livestock, he just wrapped his 23rd fair serving its mission.

We asked Daryl what a fair season looks like on the ag side:
🌅 Animal move-ins that start as early as 3 or 4 a.m. to beat the heat
🏆 26 days of competitive livestock events and 145 champions crowned
🎓 Youth auction and scholarship programs that reward young Texans’ hard work

His favorite part? Watching young exhibitors grow up through the program, from third grade to senior year, becoming the next generation of community leaders.

Dallas hosts the biggest LGBTQ+ fundraising dinner in the country every year. Here’s a look inside.

Since 1982, Black Tie Dinner has brought more than 2,000 guests into one ballroom for an evening of live performances and a crowd dressed for the occasion. Funds raised go to its Beneficiaries, LGBTQ+ supportive organizations across North Texas, as well as the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Over the years, that has added up to more than $33 million.

This year marks the 45th annual dinner, themed RENAISSANCE, on November 14 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to dress up and celebrate with the city, this is it.

Bending steel, breaking records and bringing back a lost art. 💪

Behind every midway light, thrilling ride and fair tradition are the people who make it all happen. Our Midway Mavericks series spotlights the bold personalities and behind-the-scenes stars of the State Fair of Texas, and none come mightier than Mike Johns, better known as Mighty Mike.

Now in his seventh year at the fair, Mighty Mike is reviving the classic 1920s strongman act with feats of strength, two Guinness World Records, plenty of comedy and a signature striped spandex onesie.

We asked Mike about the fans who keep coming back, including a couple who celebrates their anniversary at his show and a young fan now training to wrestle in the Olympics. His tips for fairgoers:
