Marching Season and the Fall Semester is a whirlwind of activities and progression. The constant thru it all is the building of community among my students and the clear impetus for celebrating who they are…brilliant and quality people. It is a privilege to work with them and their families. It never stops challenging my personal growth and focus each early morning to be at my best for them. The past week of drumming with my First Years on thru to my most advanced students was yet another clear reminder of why it all has meaning. Bravo, my students. Keep striving. VApercussion…Drum Strong…Drum Real. 🤠👏🏼

Today we honored and surprised Senior Van Alstyne Percussionist Luca Raner with a well deserved scholarship presentation! Luca embodies the excellence we strive for in our drumming and citizenship at VApercussion. He has been the dominant and highest achieving percussionist in our corner of Texas these past 6 years going back to his 7th Grade year! Seeing him receive this generous scholarship today was befitting of a legacy such as Luca’s. Bravo, young man. We all enjoyed celebrating your achievements today! VApercussion…Drum Strong…Drum Real. 🤠👏🏼

A very special moment in my teaching career. Not the interview or this video…but the opportunity to work with this exceptional young person. My Van Alstyne percussion student Piper Hoyt goes full speed on everything she involves herself in…she has since I met her in 5th Grade! All students deserve the opportunity to choose greatness in a learning environment that cultivates this choice. Chasing down every option to help her live her dream of marching snare drum was of the highest priority almost 2 years ago. The wonderful people at Dynasty stepped in to manifest her dream into reality. Thank you, Zach, Luke, and Roger! 🤠🙏🏽

As an incoming freshman, Piper had the hands to make the line, but ...

In VApercussion, we want all students to have the opportunity to grow and develop within our drumming environment. This outstanding student has exemplified that philosophy in all ways. Having come into our percussion program 5 years back from out of state with very little training and very little musical or personal confidence…she has completely flipped that script! Senior percussionist Kris Canchola personifies what we want to see happen with our dedicated members…persistence, determined participation, and fidelity to our values. Kris is all over some challenging Auxilliary parts, and marches a Flub Snare at games. She has become a rock solid and enthusiastic Drumset player in Jazz Band, and in the Fall of 2027 she will be part of the Tyler Jr. College band program in Tyler, TX! We’re incredibly proud of this student and her successful example. She will be missed after graduation. Great work, Kris! VApercussion…Drum Strong…Drum Real. 🤠👏🏼
