🏛️🔥 DETROIT MEMORY LANE: THE GREINER FAMILY — BEFORE 48205 WAS 48205! ❤️🖤
SHIIIIIIID!!! 😳🤣 Did y'all know that part of Detroit's EAST SIDE was once known as GREINER?!
Before the subdivisions, before the houses, and before Gratiot became the busy road we know today, this area was farmland!
🌾 In the 1830s, John and Catherine Greiner settled near Gratiot Road.
⛪ Their family helped shape the community surrounding what became Assumption Grotto.
🏛️ Michael Greiner went from farmer and businessman to serving in the Michigan House of Representatives AND the Michigan Senate!
🪦 And today, members of this pioneering family are recorded among those buried at Assumption Grotto Cemetery.
We're talking nearly TWO CENTURIES of forgotten EAST SIDE HISTORY! 🔥
👀 EASTSIDERS, WHERE Y'ALL AT?!
Who remembers the old neighborhoods around Gratiot, Six Mile, Conners Creek, or Greiner Street?
Did your parents or grandparents ever tell you stories about what this area looked like before all the houses went up?
