Honoring Juneteenth
Today we recognize Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equality.
As we reflect on this important day, we also honor the African American cowboys, trail hands, and freedmen whose labor, skill, and courage helped shape the Chisholm Trail. Their stories are essential to understanding the history of the American West.
The artwork featured today is “Get Up and Go,” a bronze sculpture by Oklahoma artist LaQuincy Reed. His work captures movement, determination, and the enduring spirit of those who forged new paths — a fitting tribute for Juneteenth.
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is open today, and we welcome you to visit, learn, and reflect with us.
