Harvest season for blues is coming to an end.

Top of Haystack Mountain where the cabin sits has been written about in AFAR & NY Times, as a top Aurora viewing spot in Fairbanks.

I love harvesting around the Trapper Cabin!

Today I picked Arctic Wild Chamomile, it grows everywhere. Same with Tundra Tea or Labrador Tea, popular amongst the Alaskan Natives. I have yet to try it. There’s a particular way to steep it so it doesn’t cause bowel issues.

The Low Bush Alaskan Cranberries are stronger than ever. I bet there’s 2-3 gallons around the cabin. Right after the first frost, we harvest.

There is a relatively new Moose Warning sign as you leave. So far I’ve had only one guest hit a moose. I’ve barely dodged 5 including a tiny new born just last week.

Summer brings so many wonderful flowers, fruits and plants to harvest.

Now is when we harvest Wild Alaskan Blueberries and Crowberries!

This year I am making Fireweed Tea. Fireweed is a vibrant pink flower, the leaves are dried, hand rolled, fermented, then oven dried and stored for 2-4 months.

The cabin grounds are full of Labrador Tea, Wild Alaskan Raspberries and Wild Low Bush Cranberries, that I freeze and use in squash this fall.

I took a break from cabin repairs to explore the beautiful state of Alaska.

Fairbanks to Denali Highway-National Geographic calls it one of the top 5 drives/locations in the world for amazing scenery.

Then Matanuska Glacier, to Haines-a must visit!

Then the Alaskan Marine Highway (ferry) to Juneau.

Countless Bald Eagles, grizzlies, seals, Orcas and mountains.

Now on the ferry from Juneau to Skagway to drive the Klondike Highway.

Wood Frogs at the Trapper Cabin!

They live behind the cabin in thick moist grass. There’s no breeding pond nearby so I’m happy to see them 4 years in a row.

Interior Alaska's only native amphibian and the northernmost-living frog in North America.
Unique for its cryo-preservation abilities, up to 60% of the frog's body freezes solid during the harsh winter.

It’s amazing to see them alive after their heart, brain and eye balls freeze all winter.

The Trapper Cabin has officially closed.

The best part of running an AirBnB are the wonderful, respectful guests who have chosen the little historic hand-scribed log cabin in the woods!

I’ve seen many hosts open and close their rentals in Fairbanks area. Some didn’t have the occupancy they hoped for, some realized it was hard to maintain. I’ve always put forth the effort to ensure guests experience rural Alaska safely and see the Northern Lights.

Running a unique Airbnb (albeit seasonal and only part-time) in rural Alaska is a lot of fun but I also acknowledge it is a lot of maintenance. Every winter since I’ve owned the cabin, something has broken, failed or simply sheered off. This year I have a to do list of repairs, log maintenance inside and out, and a few other business issues to consider.

Currently, I do not have a reopen date.

The location of the Trapper Cabin is indisputable for Aurora viewing, privacy, and seeing wild animals nearby. This has been a crazy year for moose in the yard and area. It’s also been a crazy year for record breaking cold and snow. ❄️

As I take a break from hosting, I’ll continue to post updates and pictures.

You have all blessed me and I often think about my guests and how much fun I’ve had meeting people from all over the world.
