As proud members of the Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States (PALCUS), our Managing Partners, Elisa and Edward de Melo, were honored to attend the PALCUS Award Gala in beautiful São Miguel, Azores, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States (PALCUS).

A group from PALCUS had the special opportunity to enjoy a private guided visit to the historic synagogue in São Miguel, led by Senator Michael Rodrigues.

It was an incredible experience to learn more about the rich history of Jewish life in the Azores and the lasting legacy of this important cultural heritage. Senator Rodrigues also shared his personal connection to the synagogue, having played a key role in its restoration and preservation for future generations.

Experiences like these deepen our understanding of the diverse communities and traditions that have shaped the Azores and highlight the importance of preserving our shared history.

Their day began with a visit to Sigurgeir’s Bird Museum, discovering the fascinating birdlife and natural heritage of the region. 🦆🌿

They then headed to Dimmuborgir for a memorable hike among the dramatic volcanic lava formations. 🥾🌋
