Our Story

The birth of Amelia Island Getaways marked the realization of a long held dream of Summer Smith Joseph. Summer graduated from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business in 2013 with an impressive academic record. Most notably, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the recipient of the Excellence in Management Award given to the top management student in her graduating class. Throughout college Summer managed all aspects of vacation rentals for her parents’ properties on Amelia Island and found her calling in property management. To acquire a thorough understanding of the vacation rental industry, after graduating Summer interned at Hilton Head Rentals and Golf, one of the largest and most successful companies in an intensely competitive market. She gained an exhaustive working knowledge of the business from former owner and CEO, Tom Ridgway and his staff. Summer chose to apply her exceptional organizational skills and relentless desire to please her clients by launching her fledgling business venture on Amelia Island in 2014. Wesley Joseph, an honor graduate of Valdosta State University, began his career in the service industry over 10 years ago by launching a startup company while still in college. Also finding a passion for the vacation rental industry, Wesley sold his successful business and joined the Amelia Island Getaways team in 2018. Amelia Island Getaways, a family owned and operated business, offers hands-on personalized attention to each of its clients. Setting itself apart through meticulous attention to the details of all aspects of vacation rental management is the tireless goal of this boutique rental company. The Amelia Island Getaways team has an intimate working knowledge of this splendid barrier island, partnerships with many local vendors, and an unparalleled insight into the everchanging demand within Amelia Island’s unique market. A native of nearby Waycross, Ga., Summer successfully managed all aspects of vacation rentals for her parents’ properties on Amelia Island even while amassing an impressive academic record at UGA. Most notably, she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the recipient of the Excellence in Management Award given to the top management student in her graduating class. Summer has chosen to apply her exceptional organizational skills and relentless desire to please her clients to this fledgling business venture. To acquire a thorough understanding of the vacation rental industry, Summer interned this past vacation season at Hilton Head Island Rentals and Golf, one of the largest and most successful companies in an intensely competitive market. Summer has recently attended the National Vacation Rental Manager Association’s annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee to gain further insights in how to provide cutting edge service to owners and vacationers alike.
