🇺🇸 As America continues to celebrate 250 years, Hancock County is taking a moment to honor a story of courage, freedom, and perseverance from right here at home.

The Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center, in collaboration with the Hancock Historical Museum, Visit Findlay, and the Findlay-Hancock County America 250 Committee, will host a public ceremony celebrating the national recognition of the Ohio Historical Marker “David Adams and the Underground Railroad in Hancock County” as part of the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program.

David Adams, a free Black barber in Findlay, was part of a multi-generational network that helped freedom seekers move north through Ohio. His story is an important part of Hancock County’s history, and the larger American story.

📍 The free ceremony begins at 4 PM on Saturday, September 5, at 301 S. Main St. in Downtown Findlay, across from the Hancock County Courthouse. The event will include historical remarks, a city proclamation, and coincides with the 106th Annual Adams Family Reunion, bringing descendants of the Adams family back to Hancock County to mark this historic milestone together.

A meaningful opportunity to learn more about the history that happened right here and celebrate America 250 by remembering the people who helped shape its story.
