Day 12: Last Day

All good things must come to an end. Today we trained back to Zurich for our flight home tomorrow. We made the most of our time in Zurich by hitting a shopping area built into an old viaduct, a trendy new outdoor bar, the top city sites and topped it off with an amazing Taiwanese dinner and one last Swiss ice cream. It’s been an amazing two weeks!!

Day 11: Cheese & Chocolate - Gruyère and Maison Ca***er

Started our morning on the Belle Époque historic train to Gruyère (home of the famous cheese) to enjoy some traditional Swiss food. We enjoyed walking around and landed in the HR Giger Bar, designed by the famous artist from the film Alien. Then, we made our way to the Ca***er chocolate factory, where we enjoyed learning about the origin of Swiss chocolate and tried far too many samples. We ended our evening enjoying the sunset on the Montreux promenade.

Day 10: Chillon Castle and Lavaux Vineyards

This morning we toured Chillon Castle, a famous medieval island castle on Lake Geneva. Then we took a scenic boat ride to the Lavaux Vineyards which is known for its steep, terraced vineyards overlooking Lake Geneva. Our first stop was Lavaux Vinorama where we tasted 3 different wines from the region. After, we did the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces hike and stopped at the wine vending machine (honor system) for some wine to go! The views through the vineyards were breathtaking! We ended the walk at Caveaubar where the featured producer changes weekly. We ended our night at Funky Claude’s Bar with music inspired cocktails!

Day 9: Train to Montreux with a pit stop in Bern

It’s hard to believe but we started our day with snow falling from the sky in St Moritz. We got up early and made our way to Montreux via train. Halfway through the 6 hour journey we stopped in Bern (the capital) to stretch our legs, grab lunch and explore the city. We took a self-guided walking tour that hit the highlights of Bern in 2 hours. Once we arrived in Montreux, we had an amazing fondue dinner at Cafe Du Grutli. Next up - wine, chocolate and of course, more cheese!

Day 8 - Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz

Not everyday can be the best day. Our general consensus for the day - underwhelming. We’ve been in awe of the scenery each and every day, but today fell a bit short. I would recommend this experience if you want a relaxing day in the middle of your travels or if you are making your way to Northern Italy. The journey takes 8 hours and I would pass on the food and drinks served onboard and opt for picking up picnic food and a bottle of wine to enjoy on the train.

Day 7: Glacier Paradise

Today we took 3 gondola rides up to 12,740 ft above sea level to Glacier Paradise. We were not prepared for how cold it would be but that did not take away from the incredible views. We finally got to see the Matterhorn with very little cloud coverage. To finish off the amazing day we explored the inside of a glacier.

Day 6: Arriving in Zermatt and Gornergrat Railway

Today we made our way to the quaint mountain town of Zermatt via train. When we arrived we got on the Gornergrat cogwheel train and made our way up to the Matterhorn viewpoint. Unfortunately, the clouds didn’t cooperate to see the entire Matterhorn, but the views of the Gorner Glacier were incredible!! We ended the night at Hexenbar with some new friends and got to meet the famous Hans.

Day 5: Day trip to Grindelwald

Made our way up to Grindelwald First via cable car. The fog and clouds were not cooperating, so we enjoyed lunch hoping the views would improve. Our server, Micheal, helped us manifest some better weather and it worked! The views of the surrounding mountains were amazing!!

Day 4: Morning paragliding and day trip to Lauterbrunnen

Started out the day with an adrenaline rush. We ran off the mountain with our paragliding pilots and took in the amazing views of Interlaken from above. In the afternoon, we rode the quick train to Lauterbrunnen. We enjoyed a beautiful hike to Trummelbachfalle where we got to experience the only glacier-waterfalls inside the mountain still accessible in Europe. We made the most out of the day before the rain moved in.
