At Mission Discovery, nothing encourages us more than hearing how God moves through every trip and volunteer who says yes to serving.

Each week, teams step into communities ready to repair homes, serve meals, build relationships, and share the love of Christ in tangible ways. What begins as a week of service often becomes a life changing experience, not only for the communities being served, but for every person who joins the mission.

Join these volunteers and thousands of others who have served and will serve with us. Comment "yes" below to learn how you can join a mission trip!

Watching students choose to spend their time serving others never gets old. There’s something special about seeing young people step outside of their comfort zones, love people intentionally, and experience God moving in real time.

This week, 28 incredible volunteers poured into the community in so many meaningful ways:
🏠 Built 2 homes
📚 Taught 40 students
🍽️ Served 650 meals
✨ Shared the Gospel with 95 people

Every conversation, every meal, every lesson, and every act of service mattered.

We’re so grateful for this team and the way they showed up with compassion, humility, and hearts ready to serve. Watching the next generation grow in faith while making a tangible impact is one of our favorite parts of what we do.

Drop some encouragement for this amazing team below! And if serving on mission has been on your heart, check out the link in our bio to learn more about future trips.

Welcome to the team, Dominick! 🙌🌎

Dominick Harpole is joining Mission Discovery this summer as an intern, and we are so excited to have him back for his third summer serving with us!

After spending the past two summers serving in Guatemala with his family, Dominick is returning with an even bigger role—serving 3 weeks in Guatemala as a Mission Discovery intern, plus a week in Asheville and a week in Costa Rica.

Fluent in Spanish and passionate about sharing the love and hope of Jesus, Dominick is excited to help lead others and serve communities while using his Spanish-speaking skills to build meaningful connections.

Dominick just finished his freshman year at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he is majoring in Supply Chain.

We can’t wait to see how God works through him this summer! 🤍

We’re so excited to welcome Rebecca to the Mission Discovery team this summer! 🤍

Rebecca is from Long Island, New York, and is currently studying psychology with a focus in neuroscience at Pennsylvania State University. She has a huge heart for people, mental health, and missions.

After she came on a mission trip with her high school, God continued to grow Rebecca's passion for serving others and loving communities in need. This summer, she’ll be serving with Mission Discovery in Asheville, Jamaica, Guatemala, and Costa Rica—building meaningful relationships, supporting local communities, and sharing the love of Jesus along the way.

We’re so grateful for the way God is leading her story and can’t wait to see all He does through her this summer!

Help us welcome our summer intern Rebecca in the comments 👇

For years, Josh kept showing up.

He served on Mission Discovery trips, poured into ministry, and believed with his whole heart that one day he would step into a full-time role with the organization he loved so much. He built his life around that calling—trusting that God would open the door at the right time.

But the journey wasn’t simple.

In this episode, Michael and Hailey sit down with Josh to talk about the seasons of disappointment, waiting, and wrestling with God’s timing. From the deep hurt of his parents’ divorce to a season where he felt like he had almost given up on God entirely, Josh shares how the Lord met him in the middle of heartbreak and slowly rebuilt his faith.

There’s something powerful about students learning early that faith is meant to be lived out 🤍

For years, Grace Lutheran has been serving with us for their annual mission trip, making it a tradition to take their 8th grade students on mission each year—and we are so honored they continue to partner with Mission Discovery!

This week, this incredible team of middle schoolers made a HUGE impact:

🍽️ 250 meals served
🔨 5 construction projects completed
🌱 100s of plants started in a local garden
🏠 2 homes repaired

Big hearts. Willing hands. Kingdom work.

We love watching the next generation step into service and discover what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Like this post to cheer on this amazing team!

He almost quit missions… for good.

Before Mission Discovery ever existed, our founder Maury Buchanan went on a trip that went so badly, he walked away thinking: “I never want to do this again.”

But that wasn’t the end of the story—it was the beginning of something bigger than he could’ve imagined.

In our newest episode, we sit down with Maury to talk about the week that almost stopped it all… and how God used it to build what Mission Discovery is today.

If you’ve ever questioned your calling or walked through something that didn’t go the way you expected—this one’s for you.

Three baptisms.
Lives changed.
People seen, known, and loved.

At Mission Discovery, we have a tradition called “God Sightings.” At the end of each day, teams gather to share where they saw God at work. It trains our eyes to notice Him… not just on the mission field, but in everyday life.

And this spring? The stories have been incredible.

We saw three people give their lives to Christ through baptism.
We saw individuals who felt overlooked be truly seen and valued.
We saw volunteers come home and keep serving—because what God started on the trip didn’t end when they got back.

That’s what God Sightings are all about.
Not just recognizing where God is moving… but realizing He never stopped.

The same God who moves across the world is moving in your life, too.

Where have you seen God lately? Let us know in the comments.

Stop arguing. Start listening. 👀👂

In a world where everyone is quick to respond, defend, and debate… what if we chose something different? 🤍

In this episode of Field Notes, Pastor Phil Long shares how restorative listening can change the way we see people and the way we serve. 🌍 From sacred moments on the mission field to everyday conversations back home, this is a reminder that people aren’t problems to solve… they’re stories to be heard. 🧡

When we slow down and truly listen, we start to see others the way God sees them. 🙏
