I DID IT!!! 🏴‍☠️❤️

Tonight, The Pirates of Galveston officially set sail for the very first time!

I may have only had a handful of people in my first crew, but you know what? They were the PERFECT people. They were fun, they were engaging, they played along, they laughed with me, and they made this first tour exactly what I needed it to be.

The night started with me nervous about the tour, nervous about meeting a group of strangers, and wondering how everything I had worked so hard on was actually going to come together.

And by the end?

Those strangers felt like friends. ❤️

And THAT is my favorite way to end a tour.

I’ve always said that if I don’t engage you, if I don’t make you feel like you were part of the story instead of just listening to one, then I didn’t do my job.

Tonight I got to watch something that started as an idea in my head actually come to life on the streets of Galveston.

Was the first night perfect? Nope.

Was it GOOD? Oh, absolutely.

But just wait.

Because this tour is only going to get better, funnier, smoother, and more me as it grows. I cannot wait to see what it becomes.

I love my job.
I love Galveston.
I love getting to be creative.
And I am so incredibly thankful that I get to share that creativity, this island, and its history with other people.

Tonight I got my first crew.

And this is only the beginning. 🏴‍☠️❤️

We did it, Pepe. We actually did it. 🦜😂

TODAY IS THE DAY. 🏴‍☠️⚔️

At 6 PM tonight, I officially take my first crew out for The Pirates of Galveston!

Am I ready?
Battle ready? Absolutely.
Mentally ready? …ish. 😂
Nervous? VERY.
Excited? EVEN MORE.

I’ve practiced. I’ve walked the route. I’ve talked to myself all over Galveston. 😂 I’ve got the stories, the history, the ranks, the mischief… and of course, Pepe. 🦜

Now there’s only one thing missing:

MY CREW.

Only one family today gave me that ‘is she talking to herself’ look, before running away! Don’t worry, I was just rehearsing with my AI sidekick. Perfectly normal pirate behavior, right?

Truth is, tomorrow’s the debut of the Pirates of Galveston tour, and yeah, the nerves are real!

Still, I cannot wait. If you see me on The Strand, come say hi. Even if I look like I’m having a full conversation with thin air.

🏴‍☠️ TWO DAYS, Y’ALL. TWO DAYS. 🏴‍☠️

My Pirates of Galveston tour officially makes its debut at Pirate Festival this Friday, and I’m not even going to pretend… I am NERVOUS. 😂

I’ve spent weeks researching, writing, rewriting, and practicing until the Galveston Pirates are practically living rent-free in my head.

So I decided I needed a little emotional-support backup. 😂🦜

Meet Pepe.

He’ll be riding along on my shoulder, occasionally chiming in with his own little tidbits along the way.

Unfortunately… Pepe sometimes gets a little, well…

You’ll just have to come see for yourself.

Apparently there’s already a $500 bounty on him, so that should tell you something. 😂🏴‍☠️

Two more days, crew.

Galveston had PIRATES?!

Wait… WHAT?!

Oh yes. And I have been dying to finally tell you what I’ve been working on.

Introducing… THE PIRATES OF GALVESTON with Lady Saelym!

This is a brand-new interactive pirate adventure through Galveston, filled with history, legends, a little mischief and, because it’s me, probably a few surprises along the way. 😉

I’m not telling you everything. Where would the fun be in that?

But I will tell you this:

Well… today was a BIG day. ❤️

After weeks of writing, researching, rewriting, practicing, pacing around downtown talking to myself 😂 and wondering if this crazy idea in my head would actually WORK…

Today I finally tested it on REAL PEOPLE.

And these two wonderful humans showed up to be my very first guinea pigs. 😂❤️ Thank you both for coming, playing along, giving me honest feedback, laughing with me, and helping me finally see this little idea come to life.

But there are also some people behind the scenes who deserve a HUGE thank you.

My hubby, who has basically given up all of our free time lately while I’ve been completely consumed with creating, researching, practicing and changing things for the 900th time. 😂 Thank you for letting me chase another crazy idea and never making me feel guilty about the time it takes.

My sister, who has helped me come up with those tiny little tidbits and bits of humor that make things me, and who has accompanied me by phone on more than one of my solo downtown missions so I don’t look quite as much like a crazy woman wandering around talking to herself. 😂

And my kids, who have listened to every bout of self-doubt, every “What if nobody likes it?”, every anxiety spiral and probably way more details about this thing than they ever wanted to know. 😂❤️

There are so many little pieces of the people I love tucked into this.

And tomorrow…

I finally get to tell everyone what it is. ❤️

The secret is officially coming out. 😏🏴‍☠️

For those on tour with me last night - this explains why all of us could not stop coughing!! We weren’t just imagining it!

Gulf Coast forecast, issued September 10, says some Galveston County beaches could have a moderate risk of respiratory irritation from airborne toxins associated with Karenia brevis (red tide) during the next 36 hours. The risk is typically greater when winds blow onshore or along the shore, carrying sea spray inland.[noaa]
What this can feel like
Red-tide aerosols can irritate the eyes and airways, causing:
• Coughing, scratchy throat, runny nose, or burning eyes
• Chest tightness, wheezing, or shortness of breath
• A noticeable worsening of asthma, COPD, or allergies—especially close to the beach

At the same time, general reported air pollution readings for Galveston appear to be in the Good range, with ozone listed as the main pollutant, so ordinary citywide smog/particle pollution is less likely to explain significant new symptoms than beach-adjacent exposure, an indoor irritant, infection, or another trigger.
