September 8, 1900.
On this day 126 years ago, Galveston was forever changed by the deadliest natural disaster in United States history. Thousands of lives were lost.
But Galvestonians chose not just to survive, but to thrive.
They built the Seawall. They raised an entire city. And on June 10, 1911, at 6 p.m., the Hotel Galvez opened as a symbol of Galveston’s recovery and resilience — the island’s first year-round beach resort, soon known as “The Queen of the Gulf.”
Today, we remember those who were lost, and the extraordinary spirit of the island that rose again. ❤️

📌 It's story time! 👻
I remember this family so well. They were actually staying next door at the Doubletree and had walked over. This was prior to the renovation and we still had our "Hall of History" downstairs. I walked through the employee entrance downstairs and ran into them. I shared a bit of history and proceeded to my Concierge desk. Said goodbye as they left the hotel.
Much to my suprise the son returns about an hour later. He told me "I think I caught one of your ghosts!" As I looked I replied "Yes you did!" Then I had questions...You can clearly see the spirits hand on the son's arm. After asking if he felt it, he replied NO! I then asked if it had ever happened before? No! As I looked closer I noticed the hat on his father. Retired US Coast Guard. Well, guess what? We were actually commandeered by the Coast Guard and closed down to the public from 1942 to 1944. The Hotel Galvez was used as their wartime headquarters and barracks. We were given an honorable discharge and opened back up to the public after the war.
So upon noticing his hat the 1st thing that came to me, is this a fellow guardsman who just wanted to be in the photo with a fellow officer? I think so! What are your thoughts?
Thank you for reading, and if you have any paranormal experiences to share about the Galvez, please do! I would love to hear them. 🔍👻📷✨️

Very interesting night on my tour. EMF Detectors were going crazy! A guest captured a shadow figure in the Veranda! Way cool! 👥
Then, when leaving out the back door, as I was walking down the drive to go around to my car, I walked through a cold spot! Felt it at my ankles 1st then up through the rest of my body! Once I walked out of it, I stopped to look around. Nothing! But, I walked immediately backwards and all around trying to see if I could feel it again. I did not! Another amazing instance with Spirit! 👻✨️
