🌲 Discover Scenic Trails Near Highlands of the Smokies in Gatlinburg 🌲

If you’re staying at Highlands of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, you’re perfectly positioned to explore some of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s most beautiful hiking trails. Here’s how to access these trails from the US 441 bypass:

🚗 Getting There from US 441 Bypass
• Gatlinburg Bypass: This 3.6-mile scenic route connects the north and south ends of Gatlinburg, offering stunning overlooks of the city and surrounding mountains. 
• Sugarlands Visitor Center: Exit the bypass onto US 441 South (Newfound Gap Road) and drive approximately 2 miles to reach the Sugarlands Visitor Center. This is a central hub for accessing several popular trails. 

🥾 Top Nearby Hiking Trails
1. Gatlinburg Trail
• Distance: 1.9 miles one-way
• Difficulty: Easy
• Highlights: One of the only dog-friendly trails in the park, it follows the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River and features remnants of old homesteads.  
2. Laurel Falls Trail
• Distance: 2.6 miles round trip
• Difficulty: Easy
• Highlights: This paved trail leads to the stunning 80-foot Laurel Falls, making it ideal for families and casual hikers. 
3. Alum Cave Trail
• Distance: 4.4 miles round trip to Alum Cave Bluffs
• Difficulty: Moderate
• Highlights: Features unique geological formations like Arch Rock and the Alum Cave Bluffs. The trailhead is located 8.6 miles south of the Sugarlands Visitor Center on Newfound Gap Road.   
4. Rainbow Falls Trail
• Distance: 5.4 miles round trip
• Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous
• Highlights: Leads to the 80-foot Rainbow Falls, the tallest single-drop waterfall in the park. The trailhead is accessible via Cherokee Orchard Road.

• Parking: The Sugarlands Visitor Center offers ample parking and restrooms.
• Trail Maps: Pick up a trail map at the visitor center or download one from the National Park Service website.
