Have you ever seen a bear appear on the side of a mountain? 🐻

The Shadow of the Bear is a rare optical illusion on Whiteside Mountain in Jackson County, North Carolina, near the Great Smoky Mountains region. Each autumn, from mid-October through early November, the setting sun casts a bear-shaped shadow across the mountain for about 30 minutes a day—typically between 5:30 and 6:15 p.m.

For the best view, head to Rhodes Big View Overlook along US Highway 64, a few miles from Cashiers and Highlands. It’s a memorable fall sight—and a reminder that nature has a few surprises up its sleeve. 🍂

Pigeon Forge has big plans for New Year’s Eve! 🎇

The Island has announced Hannah Harper as its headliner for the celebration welcoming 2027. Bring the family for a free concert and midnight fireworks, or make a full day of it with the new kid-friendly Noon-Year’s Eve Party at 12 p.m. 🎉
