Winter is one of my favorite seasons in Smoky Mountains. The amazing landscape becomes even more stunning. When the snow falls on the mountains and sun reflects sparkling like little diamonds, I stand in awe.

There are many activities to do in winter. A lot of the stores and attractions are open and are less busy, than midsummer. However, my favorite activity is going for a hike on a mild morning after a snowfall. The serenity of standing in the middle of the forest with snow cap trees surrounding you is unparalleled.

If you need a respite from the hustle and bustle of the holidays or a renewed spirit to start the new year, I recommend to take a step back and relax in the nature of the Smoky Mountain National Park.

Our heart breaks for all of the people affected by Hurricane Helene. Many people have lost their homes, business or the unthinkable their loved ones. We pray they are able to find peace and comfort in their neighbors, community, and the many others who care. We are thankful to the many service workers not only police and first responders, but also the volunteers and utility workers that have been out in extreme conditions working to serve others.

People are always asking what is there to do in Gatlinburg. When we go to Smoky Mountain Dream, we don't spend much time in town as it is very busy.We like to be out hiking, here are a few of our favorites...

*Clingman’s Dome (1/2 mile all incline (up and down 1.3 miles total), Beautiful views, wide paved path with places to sit)

*Husky Branch Falls via Little River Trail (Out & Back trail, 4.3 mile total, flat level wide gravel trail, trail follow a river)

*Gabes Mountain Trail to Hen Wallow Falls (Cosby) (4.5 mile hike Out & Back, some rocks, narrow bridges, some incline)

*Mouse Creeek Falls via Big Creek Trail (4 mile Out & back, a bit rocky, beautiful along river)

*Mingo Fall (Cherokee, NC, .3 mile in and out, ALL stairs 168 of them a little rocky on the end, Waterfall is tall and stunning, this is one of my favorite trails)

We love going to Smoky Mountain Dream during the winter months. While we are there we are usually updating or cleaning, although we do a lot, it never feels like work. The mountains are beautiful, hiking in the cool morning air is refreshing, and mid week we will even venture into town for a meal.

Some of our projects this visit included, spring cleaning, installing a new gas grill, trimming brush to clean up the view. We also, refreshed the back porch with new chair pads, repainted our sign and added lighting , so our cabin can be found easily at night.

5 years ago we bought this (Day Star)
With some sweat equity and a lot of miles (every weekend from Jan-Apr between WI and TN) we turned it into our dream - Smoky Mountain Dream
