As the sun sets on another day on the water, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you.

When I started Cross Island Cruises, I never imagined how much support we'd receive from guests, friends, locals, and visitors from all over the country. Whether you've been on a tour, left a review, shared a post, recommended us to a friend, or cast a vote for Best Boat Tour, it means more than you know.

We're a small business. There are no employees sending company-wide emails, no marketing department, and no corporate office. Just one captain, one boat, a lot of dolphins, and a community that's been incredibly supportive.

Whatever happens when the voting ends, being nominated is an honor, and I'm grateful for every single person who thought enough of us to help spread the word.

Thank you for allowing me to spend my days sharing these beautiful waterways with you.

When we encounter dolphins, they generally react one of three ways.

The most common response is to ignore us entirely. Tamenend’s bottlenose dolphins spend their entire lives in shallow coastal waters and estuaries, and they’re very accustomed to boat traffic. Whether we like it or not, we’re simply part of their environment, and they usually go about their day as if we aren’t there.

If they’re not feeling social, they’ll keep their distance. You may catch a glimpse of them, see a tail fluke rise into the air, and then they’re gone, only to surface again a quarter mile away.

The third response is this.

Dolphins are incredibly intelligent animals, and sometimes that intelligence leads to curiosity. It’s not uncommon for a dolphin to approach a boat, pause for a moment, make eye contact, and then continue on with its day.

Moments like these are always special because they happen entirely on the dolphin’s terms.

This cannonball jellyfish was very supportive, but unfortunately it lacks thumbs, a central nervous system and internet access.

So once again, we're turning to our favorite humans.

..but Garry has apparently decided to take matters into his own fins.

He's been popping up next to the boat all week, giving guests "the look" and reminding everyone that Cross Island Cruises is nominated for Best Boat Tour.

We're pretty sure he's pulling for us.

The salt marsh is heating up and strand feeding is absolutely on fire 🔥 We’ll catch this particular pod hunting throughout low tide, driving bait fish on the mud flats. Such an amazing scene to witness!

Update: We may have underestimated you all. 😆

When we posted about being nominated for Best Boat Tour, we figured we'd get a few likes, a couple comments and then go back to watching dolphins.

Instead, we've been blown away by the support.

As a small, owner-operated business, it's easy to feel like the little guy when you're up against companies with bigger staffs, bigger marketing budgets, and a lot more people to remind friends and family to vote. But one thing we do have is an amazing group of guests who continue to support us year after year.

Whether you've been on a tour, recommended us to a friend, left a review, shared a post, or simply cheered us on from the sidelines, thank you.

At the end of the day, awards are nice, but what really matters is that people trust us to show them the dolphins, wildlife, and waterways that make Hilton Head such a special place.

We're incredibly grateful for that.

Cross Island Cruises has been nominated for Best Boat Tour, and while the dolphins, pelicans, egrets, herons, oystercatchers, and terns are all pulling for us, they haven't figured out online voting yet.
