Our sea turtle mom has chosen her nesting spot on North Forest Beach 🏝️ 🎉 We want to thank Sea Turtle Patrol HHI for locating, protecting, and safely marking our nest, what a special job 💚 Let the countdown begin! We have 111 ping-pong ball-sized eggs that will grow beneath the sand over the next 60 days as they prepare for their first journey to the ocean 🌊 Will all@od our eggs hatch? 🐢💚 It’s Turtle Tuesday 💚🐢 We currently have an equal number of nests and false crawls, 55 of each!! ☀️🏝️ A false crawl happens when a sea turtle comes ashore but decides conditions aren’t quite right and returns to the ocean without laying any eggs. Even these tracks tell an incredible story and remind how selective these Moms can be and how lucky we that they choose Hilton Head Island so often☀️🏝️. As we enjoy summer on our beautiful beaches, remember these sandy shores are more than a place for memories and sunsets, they are nurseries for our next generation of turtle friends!

🐢☀️ It’s Turtle Tuesday ☀️🐢

Summer is officially kicking off on Hilton Head Island, which also means sea turtle nesting season is underway🌊

Our beaches are more than just beautiful places to relax… they’re also important nesting habitats for these incredible animals and their hatchlings. Small actions from all of us can make a BIG difference. 💚

Here are a few simple ways we can all help to protect sea turtles this summer:

🏖️ Fill in holes before leaving the beach
🏖️ Flatten sandcastles at the end of the day
🏖️ Remove chairs, tents and toys overnight
🌙 Keep beachfront facing lights off after 10pm
🐢 Give turtles and marked nests plenty of space

Together, these small actions can help give the next generation of sea turtles a safer journey to the sea 🌊

🐢 🌊 BIG news from Hilton Head Island on Turtle Tuesday 🐢 ❤️

Yesterday marked the official start of sea turtle nesting season on Hilton Head Island and not with just 1 nest but 4 nests all in ONE day!

These turtle tracks tell the story of a mother loggerhead making her way ashore under the cover of darkness to begin the next generation of sea turtles on our beaches.

Every nest is a reminder of how special our coastline truly is and why protecting these animals matters so much.
