It’s Foodie Friday at Spectacular Journeys

Since we are currently enjoying Sardinia, we thought we would highlight Pane Carasau, Sardinia’s famous traditional flatbread.

Thin, crisp and almost impossibly light, carasau has been part of Sardinian food culture for centuries. Traditionally baked in large, thin sheets, it was made to last — perfect for shepherds spending long periods away from home.

Today, you’ll find it enjoyed in so many ways: simply broken into pieces and eaten with cheese and cured meats, layered into traditional dishes, or softened with water and topped with tomato, pecorino and a drizzle of olive oil.

In recent years, you’ll also find different variations and flavors of carasau. Some are enriched with olive oil for a richer taste, others include herbs like rosemary or oregano, and some modern versions even add a touch of chili or whole grain flour for a deeper, more rustic flavor. While the traditional version remains the most iconic, these variations show how versatile this simple bread can be.

The magic is in its simplicity — just a few humble ingredients transformed into something so delicious.

Today, we’re sharing a beautiful seaside lunch at Molas Beach Club in P**a, Sardinia. With the sparkling sea as our backdrop, we enjoyed an amazing meal featuring freshly caught sea bream, beautifully baked in salt.
