Late season lazy mornings on the island

Saturday morning, our kids, with the help of our puppy, found this newly hatched loggerhead turtle making his way to the street. We immediately got in touch with the Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch & Shorebird Monitoring, AMITW and good thing, they were only 2 blocks away!

Fingers Crossed!

The Atlantic sea surface temperatures are telling a story as we approach peak hurricane season - this year won’t be last. Most of the storm development region in the Atlantic is 1-2° cooler than July 2024 paving the way for less overall hurricane activity the rest of season.

Colorado State issued a new update today with lower numbers but still slightly above-normal.

Anna Maria Island off Florida's Gulf Coast broke a 42-year record with 546 sea turtle nests in one season. The island also saw the return of the least tern, a threatened bird species, for the first time in 15 years, thanks to ongoing coastal preservation initiatives.
