We are proud to present the 21st Annual Citizen-Scholar Award to Hailey Burns of Konawaena High School!
A standout both in and out of the classroom, Hailey is a member of the Varsity tennis and cross-country teams, the National Honor Society, and also serves as a church teacher-volunteer at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

🌺 Meet the Nēnē: Hawaii’s Beloved State Bird! 🏝️

Did you know that Hawaii’s state bird, the Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose), is one of the rarest geese in the world? 🦢 Found only in the Hawaiian Islands, these resilient birds were once on the brink of extinction, with fewer than 30 left in the wild in the 1950s. Thanks to conservation efforts, their population has rebounded, and today, you might spot them wandering through national parks, volcanic landscapes, and even golf courses! ⛳🌋

The Nēnē’s unique partially webbed feet make them excellent at traversing rocky terrain, unlike their mainland goose relatives who prefer the water. 🌿 While they might look friendly, remember—they are wild and protected, so always admire them from a distance.
