You did the research, picked a top tier stateroom, and are ready to have the cruise of your life…

…except you’re exhausted the whole time, because little did you know, that top tier stateroom was located underneath the ship’s late-night dance club. And you’re a light sleeper.

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see cruisers make: picking their staterooms without looking at the ship’s layout or map, and booking rooms above, below, or next to high-traffic areas.

That’s not to say these staterooms aren’t habitable! Depending on how you like to cruise, these kinds of rooms could be the best option for you. It’s all about knowing yourself, knowing your travel companions, and knowing what will make or break your cruise.

Even the most experienced cruisers forget about this one crucial detail that can make or break the beginning of your cruise:

You’ll arrive in your stateroom well before your luggage will.

That means anything you need to start your vacation right away (like swimsuits, sunscreen, phone chargers, etc) should be packed in your carry-on. Otherwise, you’ll be waiting for your bags — maybe for hours — while everyone else is out by the pool.
