On this National Aviation Day, we pause to honor the dreamers and doers who made flight possible—starting with Orville Wright, born on this day in 1871, whose pioneering spirit gave wings to the world.
Here in Juneau, Alaska, that spirit is alive and well. Every day, our fleet of classic de Havilland Otters takes to the sky, carrying adventurers over the massive Juneau Icefield and into the heart of the wilderness. These iconic bush planes are more than machines—they’re the wings that connect travelers to the untamed beauty of Southeast Alaska.
Today also happens to be a double birthday celebration for two of our own aviation heroes:
Don Bach – Our Director of Maintenance & Wings Airways shareholder, whose deep knowledge has kept our Otters flying smoothly and safely for decades. A master of our fleet of de Havilland Otters and revered industry-wide.
Ken Ward – Owner of Taku Glacier Lodge, pilot, and founder of Ward Air in Juneau. His passion for preserving this iconic lodge creates an experience you can only find here—in Juneau, by air.
From our historic dock on the downtown Juneau waterfront to the still waters of the Taku River, every Wings Airways journey is a tribute—to aviation’s past, to the people who make it possible today, and to the joy of discovering from above!
