Welcome Tobin back to the 49th Fathom Charters crew!

Tobin has been fishing his whole life, growing up in Juneau, and now he’s bringing that experience to his 4th year as a deckhand with us! Currently attending Willamette University in Oregon, Tobin’s passion for fishing runs deep, from catching his first Dolly Varden at 5 years old with his dad, to hauling in a 200-pound halibut with Captain Shelby! Tobin loves being out on the water, and it’s not just about the fish – it’s about meeting people from all over and sharing the experience with them. 🌍 We’re so excited to have him back on board for another season!

We are beyond excited to announce that Captain Toni, AKA the “Halibut Queen,” will be joining our crew again for the 2025 summer season!

Growing up on the water in a small fishing town in SW Washington, Toni’s maritime journey began in the early ‘80s, working on charter boats. Starting as a deckhand while still in high school, she’s now got over 40 years of experience in the industry! From commercial boats in the Bering Sea to guiding charters along the Oregon Coast and Alaska, Toni’s expertise is second to none. Since 2017, she’s been a key part of the 49th Fathom Charters family, bringing her deep knowledge and infectious passion for the water to every trip. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Captain Toni back aboard for another unforgettable season on the waters of Southeast Alaska! 🌊🐟

Meet Captain Shelby, the heart and soul behind 49th Fathom Charters!

Originally from Illinois, Shelby grew up fishing the fresh waters of the Midwest with her brother. It was in Juneau where Shelby discovered her true passion for saltwater fishing and the maritime industry. What started with weekend sport fishing quickly turned into something much more—by the next summer, she was deckhanding on local charter boats. Her hard work paid off when she earned her Masters Captain’s license, and since then, she worked with several charter companies before founding 49th Fathom Charters in 2017. During the winter months, she stays busy running her snow plow business, Martin Snow Services, as well as spending time with friends and family. We’re so lucky to have Captain Shelby leading the way—can’t wait for another epic season on the water! 🌊✨

Today we honor those whose lives were lost for this great country, including those who were aboard the USS Juneau when it sank during World War II. We have a memorial located in downtown Juneau to honor these brave individuals. 🇺🇸
