"I finish Ironman at 11:47pm. I was in my own bed at The Salty Mermaid by 12:30. That recovery window mattered." 💬

An athlete guest told us this after last year's Ironman. He said he's done the race three times at different venues and the post-race logistics have always been a problem: crowded shuttles, hotel lobbies full of other exhausted athletes, rooms that aren't quiet enough to actually sleep.

He said finishing at the Salty Mermaid was different. He said the 10-minute drive from Alii Drive to the condo meant he was showered and horizontal within an hour of finishing. October Ironman week is three weeks away. This is the final window for accommodation. ⚡

We don't say this to create artificial urgency. We say it because it's accurate. Ironman week in Kona is the most oversubscribed accommodation period of the entire year on this island. Athletes who qualify begin booking immediately upon receiving their qualification, sometimes a year in advance. The best properties , those with A/C, real kitchens, and adequate space , fill first.

The Salty Mermaid has a very small number of October dates remaining. These are the last available dates we'll have for Ironman week 2026.

The Ironman World Championship finish line on Alii Drive is one of the most emotionally charged places in all of sport. And it stays open all night. ⚡

The race officially begins at 6:47am with the cannon start at Kailua Bay. The professional leaders finish sometime around 8 hours later. But the finish line doesn't close. It stays open and fully staffed, with the announcer calling every single name, until the final age grouper crosses , which can happen as late as midnight.

The tradition of calling every finisher's name is one of the defining customs of Ironman Kona. It means that the person who crossed in 8 hours and the person who crossed in 16 hours and 59 minutes get the same announcement, the same crowd response, and the same finish line experience. The crowd, which stays for hours after the professionals finish, reserves some of its loudest cheers for the final finishers of the night , the ones for whom the finish line required the most.

Being at the finish line at 11pm on race day is one of the most moving sporting experiences you can have, athlete or not.
