The Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association is 116-year-old summer program for ages 2 to 17. We hope to see you at the Beach!

The Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association is 112-year-old summer program for ages 2 to 17. We offer recreational and enrichment classes, from swimming, surfing and sailing, to golf and tennis, arts and crafts and some 50 more offerings in between. 🏡 A YES for Smith House is a YES for the future of KBIA!

The lanaguage on Kennebunk's Nov. 3 ballot may sound complicated, but the idea behind Question 9 is pretty simple: Right now, town requirements prevent KBIA from voluntarily rebuilding Smith House in a safer location farther from the water. Essentially, we'd have to wait for more serious storm damage before we could rebuild.

We'd rather be proactive than wait for disaster to strike!

Voting YES on Question 9 allows KBIA to move forward with plans for a safer, stronger Smith House that can serve generations of children to come. And this common-sense change very well could help other coastal property owners, too!

Our Scholarship Coordinator Emily was there to help spread the word about KBIA's annual community swim lessons and the importance of teaching the next generation to swim. Living in a coastal community, we know that swimming is more than just a fun summer activity — it's a lifelong skill that can save lives. Helping children become confident, capable swimmers is one of the most important ways we can keep them safer in and around the water.

We're grateful for opportunities like this to connect with local families, share resources, and work together to keep our community safe — one swimmer at a time! 💙

TONIGHT! 🗓️ After successful meetings with both the Planning and Select Boards over the last few weeks, KBIA is now scheduled for Public Hearing at 6:30 PM Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Kennebunk Town Hall. Please get out to support us in the final step toward putting the necessary ordinance amendment on the ballot for Kennebunk voters this November, allowing us to re-build a new Smith House.

Public comments on the issue will be permitted so it’s important our voices be heard. Can;t make it? Please email the Select Board, c/o Bryan Laverriere, Town Manager at [email protected] and copy KBIA at [email protected]. Thank you.

Thank you for filling KBIAland with laughter, friendship, courage, creativity, sandy feet, wet towels and so many moments we wish we could bottle up and keep forever.

As backpacks replace beach bags and everyone heads back to school, work and the routines of fall, we hope a little piece of this summer stays with you — the friendships made, the things you tried, the confidence you gained and the simple joy of being a kid by the sea.
