Happy Fun Fact Friday!
Today’s Edition: HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA’A 🐟
The humuhumunukunukuapua’a or the trigger fish, is Hawaii’s official state fish. “Humuhumu” translates to “to fit pieces together,” which refers to the blocks of colors fitting together to create its’ color patterns. This is combined with “nukuāpua‘a” or “snout like a pig,” referring to the pig-like way the reef triggerfish roots in sand and rocks for food. It is known for its unusual way of swimming, in which it moves by making wave-like motions with its top and bottom fins. These reef triggerfish have sharp teeth and spines that can potentially injure humans if handled. They are also aggressive towards divers and other fish so keep an eye out for these in the ocean, but don’t touch!

happy fun fact friday! this week’s edition:
JACKSON CHAMELEONS!

Jackson chameleons are an invasive species to Oahu, but they have become well-established in the wild. Originally from East Africa, they were introduced to Hawaii in the 1970s through pet trade and accidental releases. Jackson chameleons are known for their bright colors, which can change based on their mood, health, or environment. Males have three prominent horn-like structures on their heads, like a triceratops, while females usually lack horns or have smaller ones. They thrive in moist, cool environments and are commonly found in forests, gardens, and higher elevations like the Koʻolau mountain ranges near our zip line course. If you look hard enough in the higher branches of trees on the path from line 6 to 7, you might be able to spot one of these guys!

ever heard of them? grown here on the climb works keana farms location, apple bananas are known for their sweet, slightly tangy flavor with hints of apple or berry, making them more flavorful than an average banana. apple bananas are about half the size of a normal banana, but twice as sweet and higher in natural sugars, fiber, and potassium, making them a more nutrient-dense option! apple bananas thrive in tropical climates, especially in here in hawaii, where they are a popular local fruit. make sure to give them a try next time you’re visiting oahu!

Our neighboring communities were hit hard by Hurricane Helene this past weekend, while Gatlinburg is still open for business and we hope to see you this fall, many people are still displaced and lots of others living without common utilities.

If you’re planning on visiting us during the fall, below are things you might consider bringing with you to donate. You can give monetary donations at cockecountystrong.com that go straight to a community that needs it if you’re not able to make it to our mountains during our favorite season.

Bring any of the items in the second image with you when you come for your zipline tour and until October 18th, we’ll give you your photos for free as a small token of thanks. We’ll deliver anything you bring to donation centers in our area.
