KIC was founded in 1990 by captain Chris Fiala, and offers clients the opportunity to fish for halibut, salmon and other Alaskan catch. The Kodiak Island Archipelago in the western Gulf of Alaska is the kingdom of the salmon and the halibut. We operate two high speed charters for sport fishing out of the City of Kodiak. MEET CAREY OWENS! 👋🏻

Carey has worked for Kodiak Island Charters for 18 years and captains the Urascal for the majority of the summer. Carey started fishing professionally back in 1991. Before working for Kodiak Island Charters he commercial fished for 12 years. That included salmon seining in Prince William Sound, living and working on a tender for 3 years straight, long lining halibut during the derby days, spent 8 winters in the Bering Sea crabbing, owning and fishing a south east gillnet permit for 3 years, and cod jigging in Kodiak.

When he has days off during the summer he enjoys fly fishing on the Buskin or barbecuing a fat Yellow Eye. 🤩

Carey was born in Iowa and was raised in Illinois where he now lives with his life long fiancé Heather. On his offseason he spends his days guiding hunts for ducks, geese, and deer. 🦌🦆

Carey wanted to be a fisherman his entire life. Growing up on an island in the middle of the Mississippi River he spent a majority of his childhood running around with a fishing pole. 🎣

Although, he has spent most of his life on or around the water a fun fact about Carey is that he worked as a nanny on and off for a couple years in the 90s. 👨🏼‍🍼

Carey’s favorite way to eat fish is blackened white king salmon with a crisp Caesar salad on the side. 🐟 🥗

The advise Carey has for anyone wanting to book a charter is ”Take Dramamine…”. ☀️🌊
