Clients often ask: “How Close Can You Really Get to Animals on Safari?”

You’d be surprised…

🚙 Game Drives:
In most parks & conservancies, you can get as close as 5–20 feet. Lions, elephants, leopards—you name it. They see the vehicle as one big, non-threatening “animal” and usually ignore it completely (unless you stand up).

👣 Walking Safaris:
Here, it’s a different story. You’re on foot, so animals keep their distance—50 to 300+ feet. Guided by experts (always armed), this is all about respecting nature on its terms.

🏕️ In Camp:

Earlier this year Soul of Africa Travel held a mini-campaign for donations to support our philanthropic efforts in Kenya. Your kindness and generosity made a real difference, so much so, that we were also able to additionally support the Awegys School in Uganda.

We partnered with to ensure that the funds donated were used in the most appropriate manner. We were delighted to receive word that the funds were used to purchase books for the school.

“My best friend and I spent ~12 days in Rwanda and Tanzania in September 2024 and from start to finish, the trip was more incredible than we could have imagined.

We spent a couple of nights in Kigali and then set off for gorilla and golden monkey trekking, and migration camp, and safari for the next ten days. Richelle thought of every detail and even had our lodges and camps arrange special treats for my 40th birthday. I cannot overstate the benefit of having an itinerary planned by someone who has actually visited most if not all of the places we stayed. A few months before our departure, Richelle visited one hotel on our original itinerary and made the decision to move us to another property that was much more suitable.

🌟 A hidden gem in the northern foothills of Mt. Kenya - Ngare Ndare Forest 🌟

Ngare Ndare forest is a lush indigenous forest at the northern foothills of Mt. Kenya.

Azure pools glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200 years old trees stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life.

The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Northern Kenya to Mount Kenya forest reserve, and one which elephants have been using for centuries.

Super tuskers are a rare and magnificent group of African elephants that carry exceptionally large tusks, each weighing over 100 pounds. Kenya is home to some of the last remaining super tuskers, primarily found in protected areas such as Tsavo National Park, Amboseli National Park, and the Maasai Mara. Sadly, Super tuskers are critically endangered due to: 🐘 Poaching – Their massive ivory makes them prime targets for illegal poaching.🐘 Habitat Loss – Expanding human settlements and agriculture threaten their natural habitats.🐘 Human-Wildlife Conflict – Elephants sometimes raid farms, leading to retaliatory killings.Organizations such as the , , and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) work tirelessly to protect these rare giants through anti-poaching patrols, community engagement, and habitat conservation.

Sungani Lodge (family-owned and operated) is nestled in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park and is situated on the edge of a vast, tree-lined lagoon that attracts a diverse array of wildlife.

In a blink of an eye 2024 has come and gone.

It was a year filled with both growth and deeper engagement in the popular safari destinations of East & Southern Africa, as well as successfully expanding our travel offerings to include new destinations across regions like Egypt, Mexico and Europe.

Our mission for 2025 is to continue designing tailor-made safari experiences featuring hidden gems and luxury lodges, catering to both adventure seekers and luxury travelers. Most importantly, we are proud to keep partnering with local guides and conservation projects to provide authentic and sustainable travel experiences.

On a personal note, I’m immensely proud of my “cubs” as they have continued to chase their dreams both academically and athletically. Their grit is inspirational and will serve them well as they grow and develop.
