Part 2 of this incredible multi-generational African journey takes the family from vibrant city life to unforgettable safari moments and island-style relaxation.

In Cape Town, Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel offers the perfect base for exploring the city’s energy, from Table Mountain to long lunches and sunset views along the coast.

Then it’s back into the wild at Dulini River in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, where luxury meets extraordinary game viewing — including some of Africa’s most unforgettable leopard sightings.

The journey ends in Mauritius at Dinarobin Golf Resort & Spa, where slower mornings, turquoise water and beachside dinners create the perfect final chapter to an extraordinary family adventure.

A journey designed for connection, celebration and memories that will last for generations.

Shinde Footsteps | Okavango Delta, Botswana

There is something wonderfully grounding about Shinde Footsteps.
Tucked away on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta, this intimate camp offers a safari experience that feels deeply connected to the wilderness around it. Rebuilt in 2023, the camp blends barefoot luxury with the timeless simplicity of a traditional safari.

With just four spacious tents and a maximum of six guests at any one time, every stay feels personal, quiet and immersive. Days are spent exploring the Delta by mokoro, on game drives, walking safaris and night drives, while evenings end around the fire beneath vast African skies.

What makes Shinde Footsteps especially unique is its focus on experiencing the bush on foot. Guided by expertly trained walking guides, guests slow down and engage with the smaller details of the wilderness — tracks in the sand, bird calls, changing landscapes and the stories the bush quietly reveals.

From elephants and lions to wild dogs, leopards and incredible birdlife, the wildlife experience here is exceptional, but it is the feeling of being completely immersed in nature that truly defines a stay at Shinde Footsteps.

A safari experience that feels authentic, thoughtful and unforgettable.

Small moments that matter

It’s not always the big sightings that stay with you.

It’s the quiet morning coffee in the bush. The sound of birds as the day begins. The stillness of a sunset, with nothing but open landscape around you.

These are the moments that shape a safari in the most meaningful way.

From the outside, planning a safari can seem simple — choose a country, select a lodge, and book the trip. But once you begin, you quickly realize how much goes into creating the right experience.

The time of year influences wildlife sightings, every destination offers something different, and the way a journey is paced and connected can completely shape how it feels. Then there are the details behind the scenes: regional flights, lodge pairings, guiding quality, and ensuring every transition flows seamlessly from beginning to end.

This is where experience matters.

Having traveled extensively throughout Africa, we help guide our clients through these decisions — from where to go and when to travel, to how to thoughtfully bring each piece together into one cohesive journey.
The result is a safari that feels effortless, personal, and deeply meaningful.

Every journey begins with a conversation.

Planning a milestone journey for multiple generations is about creating experiences that every age will remember in their own way.

For this special family adventure, the journey begins in Johannesburg at The Peech Hotel, a calm and stylish base to settle in before exploring South Africa’s history and culture.

From there, the family heads into Botswana for an unforgettable Okavango Delta experience at Shinde Footsteps — a safari focused on connection, storytelling around the fire, and experiencing the bush at a slower pace.

Next stop: Victoria Falls and Old Drift Lodge, where river sunsets, wildlife sightings and the power of the falls create the kind of shared memories families talk about for years.

Because the best milestone trips are not just about where you go — they’re about experiencing it together.

It’s been two years since I last traveled through Rwanda and Uganda—drawn there, like so many, by gorilla trekking. And while both countries offer so much more, this is the experience that never leaves you.

Recently watching A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough brought it all back—the stillness of the forest, the quiet power of being in the presence of gorillas, and that rare feeling of witnessing wildlife exactly as it is meant to be.

What I also find so meaningful is how the experience has evolved. Luxury lodges like Bwindi Lodge, Gorilla Forest Lodge, and Erebero Hills now elevate the journey—offering comfort, intention, and a deeper connection to the landscape before and after each trek.

And perhaps most powerful of all is knowing this: your presence matters. Mountain gorillas now number just over 1,000, with populations rebounding thanks in large part to tourism directly funding conservation and supporting local communities. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park protects roughly half the world’s gorillas, while Volcanoes National Park safeguards another vital population within the Virunga range.

It’s one of Africa’s greatest conservation success stories—and a reminder that travel, when done thoughtfully, can truly give back.

What many people don’t realize about safari is that it’s not about constantly chasing wildlife. Some of the most memorable moments happen in the stillness—quietly observing as the bush comes to life and animals move naturally, without rush.

A safari is also far more varied than expected. Beyond game drives, it can include walking safaris, time on the water, cultural encounters, and unhurried afternoons in beautifully positioned lodges. No two experiences are ever the same—each is shaped by the season, the setting, and the people guiding you.

What stays with you most, though, are often the human moments.

On a recent trip to Botswana with my son Jake, we were welcomed at a lodge with singing. I noticed it happened for every arriving guest and wondered if it felt performative. Our guide smiled and explained that the staff genuinely love this break in their day—it’s a joyful way for them to share their culture and warmly welcome guests. It completely shifted my perspective. At the next lodge, when we were greeted with song again, I found myself asking about the meaning behind it—and the experience felt all the more personal and meaningful.

Safari isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about being present—allowing both the wild and these unexpected moments to unfold naturally.

From the thundering spectacle of Victoria Falls — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World — to the vast, elephant-rich plains of Hwange National Park and the untouched wilderness of Mana Pools along the Zambezi River, Zimbabwe offers a collection of experiences that are both diverse and deeply memorable.

This is a destination that feels raw and authentic — where wildlife still moves freely across ancient landscapes, walking safaris bring you closer to nature, and every moment is guided by some of Africa’s most experienced professionals.

Whether you’re watching elephants gather at waterholes in Hwange, gliding through river channels by canoe in Mana Pools, or standing in the cooling mist of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe delivers safari moments that linger long after your journey ends.

A destination for travelers seeking something real, wild, and unforgettable.

Q: Do you feel that Africa changes people?

A:I truly believe Africa changes people.

A safari in particular has the power to transform you. The connections you form — with wildlife, vast landscapes, local communities, even the scents and sounds of the bush — leave a lasting imprint long after you return home.

There’s something about being immersed in that rhythm of life that heightens your senses and quiets the noise of the outside world. You begin to understand the delicate balance between humanity and nature, and why protecting wild spaces is so important.

At the same time, Africa has a way of gently reminding you that life isn’t measured by how much you accumulate, but by how present you are. It encourages you to slow down, appreciate the natural world, and find richness in simplicity.

Few moments in Africa leave a lasting impression quite like encountering a leopard in the wild.

Often glimpsed only for an instant — a flicker of movement in the brush or a graceful silhouette draped over a tree branch — the leopard seems almost mythical in its presence. Silent, elusive, and perfectly adapted to its environment, it remains one of Africa’s most captivating predators.

Whether spotted at dusk during a game drive or resting high in an acacia after a night of hunting, a leopard sighting is never ordinary. It is intimate, fleeting, and truly unforgettable.
