Do you remember when Pirates of the Caribbean looked like THIS?

For decades, the ride featured the infamous “Bride Auction” scene, where pirates shouted “We wants the redhead!” as women were being auctioned off as brides. Elsewhere in the attraction, pirates could even be seen chasing women through the town.

Disney eventually decided the scenes hadn’t aged well. The auction was removed, the famous redhead became a pirate named Redd, and other scenes were changed along the way.

But the updates are still debated by longtime Disney fans.

If you rode the original version, do you remember these scenes? And do you think Disney was right to change them, or should the original attraction have been left alone?

Tokyo DisneySea’s Sindbad ride used to be WAY darker than the version you can ride today. 😳

When the park opened in 2001, Sindbad’s Seven Voyages had threatening creatures, sinister mermaids, a much darker atmosphere, and no Chandu. Disney eventually completely reworked the attraction, and in 2007 it reopened as the much more cheerful Sindbad’s Storybook Voyage we know today. 🐯

Disney World looks completely different after the last guest leaves.

For certain attractions and waterways, Disney has used divers to perform underwater inspections, maintenance, and recovery work after hours. While thousands of guests ride right over or past these areas during the day, some of the work needed to keep everything running happens underwater and out of sight.

Could you imagine doing this job in the middle of the night?

Have you ever wondered what happens to Disney World’s animatronics after the parks close for the night?

Once the final guests leave, Disney’s attractions enter their overnight routine. Animatronics may be inspected, repaired, maintained and tested so they’re ready to perform all over again the next morning.

But there’s something incredibly unsettling about imagining these rides completely empty in the middle of the night, especially when the animatronics suddenly start moving again.

Would you walk through one of Disney World’s animatronic-filled attractions alone after midnight?

Disney Princesses… replaced by robots? 👑🤖

Disney has been developing increasingly lifelike robotic characters, and the technology is getting advanced enough to raise a pretty wild question about the future of character meet-and-greets.

Could we eventually see robotic versions of Disney Princesses and other characters interacting with guests inside the parks?

The technology could allow characters to look and behave more like their animated counterparts than ever before, but would it actually feel like Disney magic… or just a little creepy?

Would you rather meet a human performer or an incredibly realistic robotic Disney character?

EPCOT was never supposed to be a theme park.

Walt Disney’s original vision was the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,” a real, functioning city where thousands of people would actually live and work.

The plan included futuristic transportation, underground service roads, a climate-controlled city center, and constantly evolving technology. Walt even intended for EPCOT to serve as a testing ground for ideas that could eventually change cities around the world.

After Walt died in 1966, those plans were ultimately abandoned, and EPCOT eventually became the theme park we know today.

Would you have wanted to live in Walt Disney’s original EPCOT?

Automatonophobia is the fear of human-like figures like animatronics, mannequins, wax figures, and realistic robots. And when you think about how many animatronics are inside Walt Disney World… Disney might be an automatonophobe’s worst nightmare.

Peter Cullen, the legendary voice actor who brought Eeyore to life for generations of Disney fans, has passed away at the age of 85. 💔

Cullen began voicing Eeyore in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in 1988 and continued portraying the lovable, gloomy donkey across numerous Disney films, shows, games and other projects for decades. He was also famously the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers.

For so many of us, his unmistakable voice is simply what Eeyore sounds like. A small piece of the Hundred Acre Wood won’t quite sound the same without him.

Rest in peace, Peter Cullen. 🩶

There’s actually a psychological reason some Disney animatronics feel so creepy.

It’s called the “uncanny valley,” and it happens when something looks and moves almost human… but not quite enough to convince your brain that it’s real.

And Disney’s most realistic animatronics can fall right into it.

Disneyland almost had its own version of EPCOT.

In the early 1990s, Disney announced plans for WestCOT, a massive new theme park that would have been built where Disney California Adventure stands today. The plans included futuristic attractions, international pavilions, hotels built directly into the resort, and a gigantic centerpiece called the Spacestation Earth.

But WestCOT never happened.

Rising costs, local opposition, and other challenges eventually caused Disney to abandon the project, and years later, Disney California Adventure was built instead.

Would you rather have WestCOT today, or are you happy Disney built California Adventure?
