On today’s Friday Faces, meet Haley Walleser – Director of Motorcoach and Charter Ops.

Haley grew up in Minnesota, and at a young age knew she wanted to be able to travel the world. Working in tourism for over 20 years has taken her throughout the US, Europe and South America. She has worked in all aspects of tourism – from being out on the road as a Tour Director, to driving motorcoaches, to being in the office working on itinerary designs, being the manager on duty, to scheduling, and now as the Director of Motorcoach and Charter Operations for John Hall’s Alaska.

Alaska captured Haley’s heart from the moment she flew to Juneau in the summer of 2011 to train for her Commercial Driver’s Office (CDL). After her first winter in 2012, she settled in Anchorage and spent almost 15 years embracing Alaska life. Deciding it was time to be back near family, Haley is excited to have now moved back to Minnesota.

In her free time, you can find Haley reading, making arts and crafts, spending time with her family, playing cards and board games, hanging out with animals, or planning her next big adventure. You can even find one of the murals Haley helped paint in downtown Anchorage!

And they’re off! The first John Hall’s Alaska departure of the summer left Anchorage yesterday for their first stop: Cordova.

The experience began with a Welcome Breakfast at the Hotel Captain Cook, where Elizabeth greeted the guests and they met their Tour Manager, Jeremy. After a morning visit to the Anchorage Museum, everyone packed their red John Hall’s Alaska duffle bags to take a flight to Cordova, one of Alaska’s best-kept secrets and gateway to Alaska’s wilderness. From there they will adventure to Prince William Sound, Valdez, Keystone Canyon, Denali, Talkeetna and then back to Anchorage. They are going to have an amazing adventure!

It’s time for another Friday Faces feature! Meet Emily Burton, Social Media & Content Producer.

Emily lives in Stockholm, Wisconsin – just across the river from the Lake City office. Her career has been rooted in marketing for nonprofits and cultural institutions, and she’s thrilled to bring her storytelling skills into the travel industry. Travel is in her blood, as her mother was a travel agent, and Emily has lived in and explored several places across the globe. She earned her BA from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and her MA from Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden.

In every role she’s held, Emily naturally became the go to social media manager, and she continues to enjoy creating content as a hobby – sharing hidden gems and scenic spots around Wisconsin. She loves spending time outdoors and lives year round at the summer camp her husband directs (and where she once worked as a counselor herself). Emily is also proud to be a recent cancer survivor, celebrating one year in remission this past April.

Welcome to the John Hall’s Alaska team, Emily!

The 34th Alaska State Legislature recently honored John S. Hall for his dedication and pioneering impacts to tourism.

Pictured is Representative Neal W. Foster of Nome, who sponsored the recognition and – much like the Halls’ own family story – followed in his father’s footsteps to serve Alaska. Also pictured is Speaker of the House, Rep. Bryce Edgmon, who signed the citation.

The recognition acknowledges that John Sr. was a mentor to many – a captivating storyteller, a standard setter and the heart behind what John Hall’s Alaska and the family remains rooted in today. His love for Alaska and commitment to doing things the right way shaped every relationship for anyone lucky enough to share time with him.

John Sr. would be humbled and honored, as he poured his heart into Alaska – its people, its stories, its wild places. For years, he quietly thought that his work might not matter to Alaska. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
