At a Special Meeting of the Common Council on Sept. 9 Mayor Todd Krause and the City's Alders observed a moment of silence to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks.
Pasted below are Krause's remarks to commemorate the occassion:
Before we begin tonight’s meeting, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years ago our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed us. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken in an instant, leaving families, communities, and our entire country grieving. Today, we honor their memory.
We also remember the extraordinary bravery shown that morning—by firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and everyday citizens who ran toward danger without hesitation. Their courage and sacrifice remain an enduring reminder of what it means to serve others.
In Lake Geneva, just as in communities across the nation, we continue to feel the impact of that day. We remember where we were, who we were with, and how we felt as the events unfolded. But we also remember the unity that emerged—the way people came together to support one another, to comfort one another, and to stand together as Americans.
As we commemorate this solemn anniversary, let us reflect not only on the lives lost, but also on the resilience that followed. Let us honor the strength of the families who carried forward, the dedication of the first responders who continue to protect us and the spirit of community that binds us even in the face of tragedy.
I invite everyone here this evening to join me in a moment of silence— to remember the victims, to honor our heroes, and to reaffirm the unity and compassion that define the best of who we are.
