BLOCK 16 FILES:

You might know Block 16 existed. We’re telling you how it actually operated.

Every week, the women working on the Block — Las Vegas’s Original Red Light District — were examined by a doctor. Friday was the designated day — no exceptions. It was part of the structure, and it was enforced.

Stella Iaconis, who grew up in early Las Vegas and waited tables downtown starting in the late 1920s, remembered it clearly decades later. It was a regulated system.

It’s a system still used in the legal brothels of Nevada today. All the ladies are screened on arrival and given a clean bill of health.

If you’re curious about what Las Vegas like back in the early days, it wasn't completely wild and lawless. There were systems in place that created more order than assumed.

If you could relive one night in 1920s Las Vegas — dressed up, inside the private rooms, living the story — this is it.

The Sin City Soirée takes 18 people behind the doors of a building that has been standing since 1906. Private rooms. Era cocktails. Live burlesque. Stories this city almost forgot.

BLOCK 16 FILES: The Unspoken Rule

Stella knew some of the women who worked Block 16. She waited on them as a waitress.

"Oh, they were very nice to wait on."

But if she saw one of them on the street? She didn't speak. They didn't speak to her. That was the unspoken agreement.

"They didn't want you to know them," she said. "You didn't want to know them."

And why was that do you think?
Was it dignity?
Protection?
Respect?
Social Boundaries?

I genuinely want to know your thoughts, so if you have any, send them my way, please.

Did you know Las Vegas had an official red light district?

Block 16 was established in 1905 when the railroad plotted the new town and designated two blocks for saloons, gambling dens, and brothels. Madams ran the cribs. Ladies of the night worked the streets. Gangsters kept order in their own way.

It operated wide open for nearly 40 years before it was finally shut down — but by then, Las Vegas had already found bigger and more profitable vices.

The stories from Block 16 are some of the most fascinating in Vegas history, and we tell them all on our Red Light District Tour. 🎰

Las Vegas has no shortage of legends—but few were as dangerous, glamorous, or unforgettable as Virginia Hill. ♦️

Known as the “Queen of the Mob,” she crossed paths with some of the most powerful names in organized crime… and left a trail of mystery behind her.

Trailer now. Full story next week. 🎥✨

If Block 16 had a crown jewel, it was the Arizona Club.

It wasn't just a saloon — it was the place where railroad executives, politicians, and working men all sat at the same bar. In a town with almost no rules, the Arizona Club had its own kind of order.

The best whiskey in the territory. A long mahogany bar. Stained glass doors. And an upstairs room that was the busiest brothel in town.

And it sat right in the middle of what is now downtown Las Vegas.

Frequently raided during Prohibition for illegal liquor yet continually reborn, the Arizona Club stood as the centerpiece of Block 16 into the 1940s, embodying the rough-and-tumble frontier energy that gave Las Vegas its “From Sand to Sin” origin story.

We stop here on tour. The building is gone — but the story isn't.

BLOCK 16 FILES:

This was Fremont before the pavement—a railroad town lined with dirt roads. In 1925, it became Las Vegas’s first paved street.

Dirt roads, saloons, sawdust, and whiskey.

That’s the Las Vegas we explore on our award-winning Historic Red Light District Tour.

We walk through one of the city’s first “carpet joint” hotels—and stand where horses were once tied up outside.

✨ You’re invited to 1920s Las Vegas ✨

Slip behind the velvet curtain and step into 1920s Las Vegas. 🚪

There's a version of this city most people never find — older, wilder, and a lot more interesting than anything on the Strip. It started on a single city block in 1905, ran wide open for 50 years, and was quietly erased from the official story.

On June 20th, we're taking 18 people inside it.

The Vegas Night Soirée is one night only — mob offices, live burlesque, era cocktails, costume gear on Fremont Street, and a keepsake flask to take home. Two hours. Eighteen people. A night that doesn't exist anywhere else in Las Vegas.

Don't just hear the stories. Live them.

They were labeled “fallen women.”
But they were among the first women putting money into Las Vegas.

For half a century, Block 16 was filled with women running businesses and helping shape the city’s earliest days.

Vegas didn’t begin with the strip. It began with stories like this.
