ACBS Mid-Atlantic Classic Boat Club We are the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society. Join us for classic boating, group meet-ups, storytelling, and more!

The Mid-Atlantic chapter was formed in 1998. We are made up of varied group of people who have a common love of the "woodies" and Classic Fiberglass of the past. We believe that roaring around in a beautifully varnished mahogany runabout is among the greatest pleasures of life. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the ACBS sponsors a variety of boat shows, cruises, educational events and is an annual exhib

itor at the Atlantic City Boat Show. As part of our youth services program the Chapter now sponsors Ship 117 of the Sea Scouts. Visit us on the web to learn more. www.mid-atlanticacbs.com It is designated as by the IRS as a 501C3 Charitable Organization

"I wanted to thank everyone again for their support and guidance I've received during my boat build project. My ACBS membership has been so beneficial.

I've just completed what has been my most complex wood project ever-- boat or otherwise. The bow section of the boat is a two-piece, complex scarf-jointed radius with a v-channel along the radius to accept the hull planks. The outer two edges are tapered on a declining degree angle. I have probably 8 to 10 hours in this one piece alone -- not including the time it has taken for 4 coats of pe*******on epoxy."

Recap of the 41st edition of the Barnegat Bay Classic Boat Festival jointly sponsored by the ACBS Mid-Atlantic Classic Boat Club and The New Jersey Museum of Boating saw an outstanding day. The weather was bright sunshine, low humidity, and gentle breezes.

There were 18 boats preregistered with three additional entries the day of the event. Displayed both in water and on land were canoes, row boats, sailboats, runabouts, utilities, racing boats, cruisers, a houseboat and even boat models. There was truly something for everyone and all Saturday the public strolled, biked, or drove down Meadow Avenue to view the collection of boats gathered at the Johnson Brother Boat Works.

In addition two Sea Scout units attended, Sea Scout Ship 243 with their 1973 US Navy 65 foot Patrol Boat foot “Seahorse” and Sea Scout Ship 117 with their sailboat and table display.

Much credit goes to this year’s new event chairmen Jack Brooks and the museum’s Ken Motz and all the volunteers who make this event its success.
