The James River Foot Bridge carries the Appalachian Trail over the James River in Snowden, Virginia, approximately 20 miles northwest of Lynchburg. Built on the piers of a demolished CSX bridge, the bridge is the longest foot traffic-only bridge on the Appalachian Trail. While this is indeed a footbridge, its name actually refers to Bill Foot, an Appalachian Trail enthusiast who spearheaded the conversion of the bridge into its present use. After passing from cancer at age 53, it was appropriately named the James River Foot Bridge.

This is a local landmark that can be seen from almost any point in Rockbridge County, Virginia, but you can only see its unusual twin peaks from the north and south sides. The mountain consists of two peaks, one called "Little House Mountain" and the other "Big House Mountain".
