𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗴 has been awarded its inaugural Green Globe certification. The luxury resort is situated directly on the shores of Phayun Beach, boasting an uninterrupted sea view over the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Thailand.

Although just starting on its sustainability journey, the resort has already developed and implemented initiatives that address key concerns including regional development, waste management practices and protecting the coastline in Rayong.

The resort has also established a partnership with Ruk Rayong, a local social enterprise that supports fishing communities by creating additional income opportunities through community-based and environmental initiatives. One project takes plastic bottles, once destined for the sea, and transforms them via an upcycling process into finely woven fibers and later fabric. Through this collaboration, the resort promotes locally made products and supports projects that give recycled materials a new purpose.

Few destinations illustrate the urgency of sustainable tourism more clearly than the Maldives. Famous for pristine beaches, coral reefs and turquoise lagoons, this Indian Ocean archipelago is also extraordinarily vulnerable to climate change.

Around 80% of the Maldives’ islands are approximately one metre above sea level. Climate change therefore presents profound challenges, including sea-level rise, coastal erosion, extreme events and increasing pressure on scarce land resources. The World Bank projects sea-level rise of between 0.5 and 0.9 metres by 2100 and warns that climate change threatens the country's marine ecosystems and an economy heavily dependent on tourism and fisheries.

Green Globe certification has been awarded to Ecolodgee Hotel. The certification acknowledges an ambitious environmental approach taken at the heart of the Futuroscope Park, situated in the Vienne department, near Poitiers in France.

Hotel manager, Michel Meyer said, "All the team is delighted in achieving our inaugural Green Globe certification. With Ecolodgee, we wanted to create a true haven of peace where our visitors can extend their day with a moment of relaxation, disconnection and reconnection with nature. Many guests are surprised to discover such a peaceful place just a few steps away from the excitement of the park.

“The architecture supports this transition - visitors gradually leave the urban environment behind and enter a world entirely made of wood, where they feel immersed in nature, in complete serenity. This project, completed in just 15 months, brought together nearly 50 employees from many different areas of expertise within the park, with the support of an external consultant. It is a collective achievement that we are particularly proud of."
