The Perfect Mother’s Day… just without the mothering.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel spending Mother’s Day on safari… without my family.
A little guilty? Yes.
A little anxious? Naturally.
A little excited? 100%.

But here’s the thing no one really says out loud:
Sometimes the best way to celebrate being a mom is to take a break from doing all the mom things.

So here’s how I spent the day:
🦒 An early morning game drive with coffee in the wild.
🍳 Brunch I didn’t have to make.
📕 Reading by the pool in total silence.
💆🏽‍♀️ A massage with no one knocking on the door.
🌅 A golden hour game drive with sundowners in hand.
🍽️ And a four-course dinner with wine pairings, where no one asked for chicken nuggets.

It was peaceful. Restorative. And honestly? Perfect.
Not because it was fancy (though, let’s be honest—it was pretty fabulous)…
but because I gave myself permission to choose rest, beauty, and quiet joy.

7 years. Yay us 🎉

I’m getting to the point of marriage where my goal is to lean into what is.

Who i am.. who he is… what this season of life brings… what takes priority... what doesn’t… what we have time for… what falls short… and just really trying to embrace the good.

I’ve had to work really hard to shake this idea of what a marriage is “supposed to” look like, and be grateful for what my marriage is. (that work isn’t done btw…)

We might be in a season with a few more fist bumps than make out sessions, but he is my person, this is our marriage, and we’ve got a beautiful life we are building together.

Happy 7 years down, until you meet your maker to go (don’t try me. 😉)
