✈️ TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY ✈️
💵 DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU LAND TO THINK ABOUT MONEY!
You’ve made it to your international destination, grabbed your bags and suddenly realize…
“Wait… I need local currency.” 😩
So you head straight for the first currency exchange counter you see at the airport.
Convenient? Absolutely.
Always your best option? Not necessarily. 👀
Airport currency exchange services can sometimes come with less favorable exchange rates or additional fees — and those little differences can add up.
✈️ KERI’S TIP: Have a money plan BEFORE you travel.
Before leaving home:
💳 Check whether your credit/debit cards charge foreign transaction fees.
🏧 Find out what your bank charges for international ATM withdrawals.
💵 Research whether you’ll actually need much cash at your destination.
📱 Let your bank know about international travel if your bank recommends or requires it.
🌎 Learn the approximate exchange rate so you have an idea of what you’re actually spending.
And here’s a BIG one…
When a card machine or ATM abroad asks whether you’d like to be charged in U.S. dollars or the local currency, don’t automatically choose dollars just because it looks familiar.
The conversion offered at the machine may include its own exchange rate or markup. 💸
A few minutes of research before your vacation can help you avoid unnecessary fees once you’re there.
Spend that money on an excursion, a great dinner or a souvenir instead. 😉🌴
