As the sun sets on our last official day of touring this great park, we reflect on things we are thankful for. Most prominent of which is the for monitoring and adjusting the route to the this year. Thanks to their diligence we had minimal tour interruptions when the old route became unstable. The new route is arguably preferred to the old and we hope you’ll join us in 2027 to explore it!

Due to the harsh Alaskan climate, the treeline in the Wrangell-St. Elias NP is between 3,600 and 5,600 feet, much lower than you’ll find on mountains in the lower 48.

We witnessed the power of glaciers recently on a backcountry trip near the Nizina Glacier. The glacier “calved” (the breaking off of massive chunks of ice) enough ice to create 3 new house-sized icebergs, to cover the lake in a sheet of floating ice particles, and created a tsunami that washed away 10-15 feet of silt from the opposite shore! Never underestimate nature. Its quiet beauty often hides sudden, raw power!
