Ever wondered what it’s like to get dropped into the middle of Wrangell–St. Elias National Park with nothing but your backpack and a day of adventure ahead?

Ashley from Ashley Goes Hiking joined us for a day in the Steamboat Hills and wrote all about the experience!

Check out her trip report below!

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is America’s largest national park, over 13 million acres, bigger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Switzerland combined, and yet almost nobody actually gets into its backcountry. Unlike most parks in the Lower 48, there’s essentially no road system here. A single ...

We’re excited to share that WMA was recently featured on Alaska Uncovered, hosted by Jennie Flaming!

Jennie sat down with three pilots who represent different chapters of our story: Kelly Bay, Austin Robel, and Keane Brown.

Together, they talk about the history of Wrangell Mountain Air, flying in Alaska, life in McCarthy, and what has changed—and what hasn’t—over the years.

We’re grateful to Jennie for bringing these three voices together and giving us a chance to share a little of the story behind the airplanes, the company, and the people who have kept WMA flying.

Give it a listen wherever you get your podcasts! ✈️🏔️

As our country celebrates its 250th birthday, we found ourselves looking back at a few of our own Fourth of July traditions.

From this year’s Wings Over the Wrangells float to past themes celebrating our 30th anniversary, our mechanic Steve, and even the ancient Wrangellia terrane beneath our feet, McCarthy’s twice-around-town parade has given us plenty of reasons to laugh, create, and celebrate together.

Our latest blog is a little trip down memory lane and a reminder that summer is in full swing in Wrangell–St. Elias. 🇺🇸✈️

As our country celebrates its 250th birthday, we found ourselves looking back at a few of our own Fourth of July traditions.

From this year's Wings Over the Wrangells float to past themes celebrating our 30th anniversary, our mechanic Steve, and even the ancient Wrangellia terrane beneath our feet, McCarthy's twice-around-town parade has given us plenty of reasons to laugh, create, and celebrate together.

Our latest blog is a little trip down memory lane and a reminder that summer is in full swing in Wrangell–St. Elias! 🇺🇸✈️

By the time Independence Day rolls around, summer in Wrangell–St. Elias is in full swing. The days are long, the flights are full, and the little town at the end of the road suddenly feels like the center of the universe.

Summer is officially underway in McCarthy, and with Father's Day this weekend, we thought it was the perfect time to share a story about adventure, family, and a little bit of Alaska grit!

Our latest blog post comes from an unexpected guest author and daughter of our pilot Austin, Linde! Last summer, the two flew to the Nikolai Plateau and backpacked their way back to McCarthy, crossing rock fields, following goat trails, bushwhacking through thick brush, and making memories that will hopefully last much longer than their sore legs!

One of our favorite things about McCarthy is that it creates opportunities for these kinds of experiences. Whether it's a father taking his daughter into the backcountry for the her first trip, friends setting off down the river, or a family seeing the Wrangells for the first time from the air, these experiences make this special place all the more incredible.

Read Linde's full trip report on our blog and join us in celebrating the start of another Alaskan summer.

☀️ Happy Father's Day from all of us at Wrangell Mountain Air!

This Father’s Day, we’re excited to share a special guest blog from our pilot Austin’s daughter, Linde. Linde was kind enough to write a trip report from her very first backpacking adventure. They hiked a route from the Nikolai Plateau back to McCarthy that combines sweeping views, plenty of r...

Big news for 2026!

This summer, we’re excited to offer a new day trip with that packs some of the best of Wrangell–St. Elias into one big, beautiful day. It starts with a flight, turns into a hike, and finishes with packrafting among icebergs on Kennicott Glacier Lake!

You’ll fly from Chitina to McCarthy on our morning scenic flight, meet your packraft guide at the airstrip, and head out on a moderate hike to the lake. Once there, you’ll inflate packrafts and paddle through floating ice, glacial features, and and enjoy a lunch on the water with epic views of the Stairway Icefall and Mt. Blackburn towering 16,390ft above. By late afternoon, you’ll head back to the airstrip for our evening flight back to Chitina.

We know not everyone can spend weeks out here, but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on the good stuff. Between the new Packraft Adventure Day trip, and our tried and true Glacier Adventure and Historic Adventure Day trips, our goal is simple: help you make the most of your time in our favorite place in the world, Wrangell–St. Elias National Park!

As 2025 comes to a close, we want to pause and say thank you.

This season, with the help of our guests and an incredible group of travel agent partners, we were able to offset 364 metric tons of carbon emissions through our carbon offset program. That’s a meaningful step toward protecting the landscapes we’re so lucky to fly through every day.

Earlier this year, we invited our travel agent partners to join our carbon offset program by opting in on behalf of their guests. We hoped it would make a difference, and it exceeded anything we imagined! The enthusiasm, support, and shared commitment made this a true community effort.

Thank you to Agama, Ahorn Reisen, Tyee Travel - AK Cruises & Vacations, Alaska a tu Medida, Alaska Packraft School, B2 Travel Group, Bovac Rafting Team / My Way Alaska, Canadian Tours International, Chinook Tours, Currant Ridge, Discover Holidays, Especia Viajes, Get Up & Go Tours, Grand Nord Grand Large, Go North, Journeys Across Canada, Dream Vacations - Keith Walter, Kennicott Shuttle, Kennicott Wilderness Guides, Knightly Tours, Little Travel Group, Moose Pass Adventures LLC, Off the Beaten Path, Ofer Gelmond Tours, Planet Earth Adventures, Prime Travel / Nomad, Viking Travel.

To our travel agent partners: thank you for choosing to be part of this work and for helping bring more travelers into the responsibility of caring for Alaska’s wild places. And to everyone who donated, thank you for taking that extra step.

Protecting these landscapes doesn’t happen alone. It happens when a community shows up together. Here's to 2026!

In 2025 Wrangell Mountain Air offset more carbon than ever before. This year we reached out to our travel agent partners and invited them to join our program. The companies that joined in made the choice to offset all their flights with us in 2025. We had hoped to see an increase in donations. What

This past summer, Val Myers and his adventure partner, Kyle Sprenger, set their sights on the Bagley Icefield, an endless expanse of ice that sprawls across our backyard. Their plan was ambitious: fly in with WMA, and a traverse linking hiking, skiing, and packrafting into one continuous line all the way to Yakutat. Follow the link below to read a segment of Val's account of their experience in Wrangell St. Elias National Park!

Follow an ambitious expedition across Alaska’s Bagley Icefield using hiking, skiing, and packrafting to reach Yakutat in this wild multisport adventure.
