Dynamic currency conversion occurs when outside the U.S. & you withdraw from an ATM & accept a proposed conversion rate or choose to pay in USD at a merchant when asked if you prefer to pay in USD vs local currency. ALWAYS decline that exchange rate & ALWAYS pay in local currency. If you do not, the exchange rate that you lock in at that moment will be far from what it should be, and not in your favor. So, long story short, do withdraw from ATMs for cash (don’t exchange money at some counter), but decline any immediate conversion rate proposed (you will still get your money) & always pay in local currency when paying by card & given the choice between local currency & USD. Happy savings!
