Mino Gizhigad Relatives! Happy Friday! We wanted to provide a small update on the building progress:

On Friday, June 20 – Summer Solstice Day – a small gathering of community youth and partners from our NACC Healthcare + Housing development project, held a “Buffalo Heart Ceremony” that concluded the ceremony which was started in the Spring. Facilitated again by Barry Hand, youth led the burying of a buffalo heart (a gift from the winter buffalo hunt conducted by handful of our community men who traveled to South Dakota) in the center of the ground where the new building will be. This ceremony – a more modern interpretation, as described by Barry – is intended to request forgiveness “for the harm we are doing to Unci Maka (mother earth) by putting this big hole in her, and thanking her and Creator for the opportunity to create a space that will provide healing, support and wellness for our community.” The ceremony was led by 10 young men and women from our community, “because these young people will be our community leaders and healers in the future. It is important they learn these practices and pass them on to the future generations, and they remember their duty to protect and support this space and the relatives who will benefit from this new building.”

Construction on NACC’s new clinic officially began on Wednesday, May 28th. This marks a major milestone in our continued effort to expand access to high-quality healthcare in our community. We’re excited to see the project taking shape and will be sharing regular updates as progress continues.

Otto Bremer Trust, one of the key local lending partners helping to fund the construction of our new clinic, featured NACC in its most recent Community Newsletter. We’re honored to be highlighted by such a respected organization and grateful for their continued support in bringing this important project to life: https://ottobremer.org/community-report-2024/

Our Story

NACC is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in the Phillips neighborhood. The clinic serves all people, but is committed to providing a place where Native Americans can feel at home as the primary population at NACC. Although eighty five per cent of our patients are Native American, we do not receive Indian Health Service funding. NACC provides Medical, Dental and Counseling services. We also have an active Community Health department that includes a Dietician, Diabetes Case Manager, Patient Advocate, Health Educator and Prenatal Case Manager. We believe in the empowerment of every person and encourage them to become involved in improving their own health-physically, emotionally and spiritually.
