Harvest Moon is almost here. Tomorrow, Franklin’s Main Street is the place to spend the day.

The 27th Annual Harvest Moon Festival is Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Make time for food, vendors, local shops and family activities, with music by DJ Shannon and Johnny Chauvin.

Patterson has a story that reaches from the sawmill floor to the sky.

At the Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Museum, explore Louisiana’s aviation and cypress-lumber history in one visit. Jimmie Wedell and Harry P. Williams formed their air service in Patterson in 1928, and the museum brings that era to life through aircraft and memorabilia.

Find it at 118 Cotten Road in Patterson. Regular hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; admission is free. Check the museum’s calendar before your visit.

Here’s a good way to decide where to eat next: follow the shrimp.

The Cajun Coast’s Shrimply Delicious Food Trail gives you a map for a dining trip around the parish. Choose a participating stop, browse the menu and make a shrimp meal part of your visit.

A few strokes of the paddle can change the whole pace of your day.

Start with the Cajun Coast trail guide and choose a route that fits your experience. Two options to research:

• Bayou Portage: about nine miles round trip, with access at the Fairfax Foster Bailey Memorial Boat Launch in Franklin. Plan for a longer outing, not a quick paddle between stops.
• Yellow Bayou: about six miles round trip, with access at Verdunville Boat Launch #1.

Before you launch, check weather, water levels and access conditions. Wear a life jacket, take water and let someone know your plan. The local guide also notes hunting-season activity and possible vegetation in waterways.

Some afternoons only need a little room to play.

In Bayou Vista, make time for the playground, a round at Noah’s Adventures Mini Golf, or a stop at The Swamp Skate Park. Noah’s Adventures has 18 holes, so there’s plenty of time for a little friendly competition.

Pack some water, choose your favorite way to spend time outside, and check the Community Center’s current hours before heading over. Mini golf and the skate park have their own operating schedules.

Who makes the gumbo you’ll be talking about on the way home?
Roux Rumble is today at Lawrence Park in Morgan City. Gates open at 9:30 a.m., with live music by Swampland Revival from 10 a.m.–noon. A $10 tasting bracelet lets you try the gumbo and help pick a favorite.
Bring the kids for the free Kid Fun Zone, come hungry, and help support the Alzheimer’s Association.
