On April 23 from 1 - 6 p.m. in the David Letterman Lobby, the Center for Emerging Media Design and Development (EMDD) will host its annual symposium. This event is a showcase of an entire academic year of student work that includes group project teams, individual capstone, thesis, and creative projects, as well as in-class assignments. This year’s projects include partnerships with the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and the Economic Awareness Council and Child’s Play, a Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago charity. Visitors will explore the original work of EMDD students and be user-testers for projects and games that have been created as part of the EMDD curriculum. All are welcome to attend this free event!
Spring is a busy time in EMDD, and as we plan for the upcoming symposium, we are also launching new project teams for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Our annual project pitch night will be on April 1. For the first time in program history, all of our projects will be a part of the David Letterman Learning Experience (DLLE) and will be partnered with Ball State’s new Center for Innovation and Collaboration. Students on these teams will be working with state of the art technology and new resources to create a dynamic impact for their project partners.
The DLLE is a student-led interdisciplinary project within the Center for EMDD that combines storytelling, technology, and art. Recent DLLE projects include educating students and the community about the art of glass blowing in conjunction with the documentary film Clear Reception, featuring David Letterman and Illuminating Lives, an immersive virtual projection storytelling project inspired by the Van Gogh Exhibition.
And don’t forget April 1 is also One Ball State Day! You can help our EMDD students and their stories by donating to our foundation account! Stay tuned for more information.
