The Strand to Slough Expedition: 3 filmmakers, 4 trekkers, 7 days, 50+ miles, and one unforgettable journey across the Florida Wildlife Corridor in Southwest Florida.

We're excited to share a link to the Patchwork Wild – Partner Cut, which was shown during the "Sneak Peek" event at the Community School of Naples this past April. The full expedition documentary will be debuting later this year!⁠ Rising Tide Explorers founder and lead explorer, Ryan, guided the trekkers on this expedition. RTE guide and herpetologist Matthew Fox Metcalf also participated. Follow the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation to see more of their incredible work and get notified when the expedition film is released!

Beaches at Rookery Bay Research Reserve are important nesting sites for loggerhead turtles. They arrive from May through October and typically lay more than 10,000 eggs!

Our amazing young explorers at Marco Island Academy Ambassadors of the Environment Camp are diving into hands-on experiences and learning directly from our expert guides about how to protect and preserve our beautiful ecosystems.

From mangroves to marine life, they’re discovering the wonders of nature and how to be true stewards of the environment. 🌞

This adventurous crew found themselves in a bit of a kayak traffic jam in the mangrove tunnels — lots of laughs, a little teamwork, and maybe some gentle teasing involved!

But just around the bend… A close-up moment with an immature little blue heron, calmly watching it all unfold from its perch in the mangroves.

With our expert biologist guides leading the way, every twist and turn in the tunnels brings a new chance to connect with nature (and each other).

Southwest Florida. A gem of the sunshine state. Thousands of people visit the area every year to enjoy our mild winter weather, golf, shopping, resort swimming pools, top rated restaurants, and our famous white sand beaches. What’s missing from this picture? THE GREAT OUTDOORS! Southwest Florida is home to one of the largest and most unique wilderness areas on the eastern seaboard including the Big Cypress, the Everglades, and the 10,000 Islands. These natural wonders are right in our back yard and need to be explored, enjoyed, and appreciated! Here at Rising Tide Explorers, we help to give you an up close and personal experience with these amazing natural places so that you can see and feel the THE REAL FLORIDA first hand!

Founded in 2016, Rising Tide Explorers began its mission to change outdoor culture in Southwest Florida and raise the bar of ecotourism in the region. After studying the industry, it was surprising to learn that there are no certification requirements for eco-tour guides in the state of Florida. This left hopeful explorers with few options other than joining a scripted excursion leaving out many of the amazing intricacies of Florida’s nature coast. An untrained eye can easily overlook or misrepresent the most awe inspiring things about these unique ecosystems, so a group of local biologists decided to do something.

Rising Tide Explorers provides you with the opportunity to experience one of the most unique areas in the country while learning from the most experienced and qualified guides in the region. Our Ecological Interpreters are hand selected to include local scientists, biologists, and environmental educators who will lead you on your adventure. With an authentic knowledge and organic passion for Florida’s natural systems, our guides will leave you with a new appreciation for the extraordinary wildlife, ecosystems, and ecology of Southwest Florida.
