A TREASURE THAT MOVES!

At first glance, this beautiful, glossy shell might look like a little piece of beach treasure. But watch closely… it’s alive!

Meet the olive snail, a marine snail named for its smooth, polished shell that resembles an olive. These fascinating little predators burrow through sandy bottoms in search of prey.

Velliger is waiting to take you to beautiful places…

Have you ever wondered where the name of our boat, Velliger, came from?
A veliger is a tiny, free-swimming larval stage of many mollusks, including oysters, clams and scallops. The name comes from Latin and means “sail-bearer,” a pretty fitting name for a boat, driven by biologist guides, spending its days exploring Southwest Florida’s beautiful waters.

It’s been a busy month for the talented guides of Rising Tide Explorers! 📸

Biologist Guide Evan, recently shared his expertise by teaching a Kayak Safety Workshop for ,Women Outdoors Naples. As a certified Kayak Rescue & Outdoor First Aid Instructor, safety is a big part of what Evan brings to every adventure.

He’s also one of our most talented photographers on the water, and we’re excited to celebrate his recognition as a winner in the 2026 National Estuaries Week Photo Contest!

Another excellent RTE photographer, Captain Sarah Rose, was also recognized as a runner-up in the contest! 👏

And there’s more exciting news for Sarah; she was recently hired as the new Education Specialist at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, the very estuary she has been sharing with and teaching our RTE guests about for years. We can’t think of a more perfect fit! 💙

And congratulations are also in order for Celina, one of our kayak guides and the leader of our FrogWatch program. She was recently hired by Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, bringing her field and laboratory experience in ecology, herpetology, hydrology, endangered species conservation, and restoration to her new role. Her experience includes working with sea turtles, gopher tortoises, and Florida’s freshwater herpetofauna. 🐸🌿

We couldn’t be more proud of Evan, Sarah, Celina, and our entire RTE team and the important work they do for our local environment, on the water, in the field, and throughout Southwest Florida. 💚
