If your U.S. passport is lost or stolen while you’re overseas, our consular teams around the world can help. Here’s what to do:
1️⃣ Stay calm. Our teams can help get you an emergency passport in order to return to the United States.
2️⃣ Contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for help. Visit the U.S. Embassy website for the country you’re in to find their emergency contact info and/or their process for replacing a lost or stolen passport. You can also find this contact info at travel.state.gov/destination.
3️⃣ Apply for your emergency passport in person. Follow the instructions provided by the Embassy or Consulate regarding walk-in hours or scheduling an appointment as well as what to bring.
4️⃣ Apply for a full validity passport when you’re back in the United States. If you apply for the full-validity replacement passport within one year of the emergency passport being issued, it will be exchanged without any additional fees. Learn more at travel.state.gov/ReplaceLimitedPassport

📰 ASTA in the news: AFAR highlights ongoing travel impacts after the DHS shutdown.

Even though the shutdown has ended, the ripple effects are far from over and ASTA is sounding the alarm.

ASTA President & CEO Zane Kerby told AFAR:
“Depending on where recent TSA job losses are concentrated… we may very well see exorbitant wait times at airports as summer travel kicks into high gear.”

Kerby also emphasized the need for long-term solutions, including structural changes to restore confidence in the system.

• Over 1,100 TSA officers have left the workforce
• Peak summer travel + World Cup demand is approaching
• Airport delays could return despite funding stability

ASTA welcomed House approval of H.R. 5663, the ACPAC Modernization Act, a key industry priority that brings travel advisors closer to formal representation on the Aviation Consumer Protection Advisory Committee (ACPAC) at the DOT.

The bill’s advancement with broad bipartisan support reflects growing recognition in Congress of the essential role travel advisors play in supporting consumers and shaping the modern travel marketplace.

If enacted, the legislation would create a dedicated seat for ticket agents on ACPAC, ensuring federal policymakers benefit from the perspective of professionals who assist travelers in navigating the complexities of air travel.

“Travel advisors are an integral part of the travel ecosystem, serving both as advocates for their clients and as key contributors to the broader marketplace,” said Zane Kerby, ASTA President and CEO. “We are grateful to Congresswoman Dina Titus for introducing and championing this important legislation.
